engine difference from convertible to hardtop

Anyone know what is the difference between engines on a 2008 cooper S from hardtop to Convertible?

According to Car-part.com, the engines are not interchangeable. In my area, the engines for the convertible about half the price as the hard tops. I want to put a convertible engine into a hardtop. Think it will work?

I believe in 2008 the Convertible was still the R52 body style and used the Tritec I4. 2009 introduced the R57 with the N-series engines they were using in the R56.

It would be like trying to put a R53 engine in an R56, pretty sure it doesn't work without some significant modification.

Yep, it was the period 2007-2009 when the hardtop was second generation but the convertible was still first generation, so different engines.
