Flat load floor

Ok here is the final episode if this saga...

Factory ordered flat load floor... Weathertech mat won't fit properly....

Flat load floor from ECS (250.00 +shipping) creates a flat floor.

Flat load floor from ECS even folds up to attach on its own to get out of the way when still using the factory flat load floor.

Now a perfect fit with the Weathertech cargo mat.

Thanks ECS for the great product and explanation before ordering.

I have the same factory flat load floor and WeatherTech mat. The mat lies well enough for my preference (it's just a raised a bit on the edges because the factory flat load floor, as you know, does not create a 100% flat surface at the edges). The problem I see with your setup is that it's significantly more troublesome to access items in the storage compartment underneath. I grab/store items in the compartment all the time, and I can still easily access it with only the WeatherTech mat lying on top.

Double-check that part number; from the photos, it looks like it's meant for the F-series.

You CAN remove the flat load floor and use just the top load floor just as easily, and not have to live with the sloppy mat fit all the time. For the few seconds of access, I am not willing to have that eyesore mat fit.
But then again maybe I am a bit OCD.....

Thanks — I should have known you'd know for certain.

I bought a spare floor insert for my wife CMS, and made a surround from ¾" maple plywood. Dropped the surround into place, slide the floor into it, and boom, almost as good as factory! Not quite as elegant though.

In any case, I was mixed up when looking at that page earlier because I forgot her car has the bi-fold floor; my older Clubman has a trifold floor insert.

I called then emailed Weathertech and referenced this thread and a couple others trying to get them to correct their website. They say they sell a cargo mat for the R60 with Flat Loadfloor and they do not. The mat they sell is for the floor cover without the flat Loadfloor as shown in this thread. Let's see if the "get it".

So, by looking at the pictures, the ECS product fit right into the slots, and no removal of the optional flat load floor was necessary?

No problem at all... Can either use with or without factory piece. I use threw it on top for now. It really is a nicely made piece that should have come as part of the factory flat load option originally.

If anyone is wondering why the factory setup is so strange, a post from NAM member FredoinSF explains it very well (keep in mind that this was when the rear bucket seats were standard, and the bench seat was optional):

[The flat load floor] consists of two panels with a piano hinge instead of the standard single panel setup. With the two panels, you can cover the storage well with one of the panels AND have the second panel placed against the rear seats to cover the hole in between the buckets. It basically gives the option of having a permanent flat floor on top of the storage well regardless of whether the hole between the seats is covered or not. Without that option, the four seat cars are come with a single panel cover. With only one panel, either the storage well is covered or the back of the seats is covered so you can't always have a flat load floor.
According to my and Ann's MAs, the bench seat cars are still going to be delivered with the single panel shelf. Since there is no gap between the rear seats with the bench configuration, that second shelf really would serve no purpose other than extra protection

Is the "flat floor", the upper piece strong enough to use on its own or do you still need the lower piece for support of cargo?
