Me and my late best friend (RIP buddy) were out motoring and took a turn pretty fast. A truck in the other lane kicked up a decent sized rock, maybe about twice the size of a hot wheels car.
We both saw it coming and yelled "HOLY $H1T". Rock comes right through the windshield and landed on my dashboard. Glass everywhere.
On the A pillar it would have to be a huge rock, lots of force. But on the end on the A pillar near the window, I would say yes, as that the edge of the window ( weak point ). Also the same thing right by it on the glass . I been through some glass, seen it all.
On the A pillars also watch when new ones are put in after a window replacement , glass places are know to destroy and damage them.

Yep right on the edge. Had the same thing twice, once it hit just a little and took out most of the a pillar. Then Safelite did the repair and A pillar flew off afterwards after I told them not the break the clips. :(

That's 2 for you and 3 for me the same way... Design flaw?
, but seen other Cars other then MINI do this also. We just have a very upright windshield. Have an R58 with a greater rake on the windshield , time will tell.
I have an '06 R53 with 80K miles. I'm on windshield #2. Took a good size rock right a semi kicked up right in the center of the glass when I'd owned the car for a couple of years. Otherwise, no issues.
'05 R53 with 137k; I bought it 2 months ago with 130k. Don't know the past history but the car currently has an OEM windshield with a crack at the lower right, a star at the lower left and a migrating crack in the line of sight.
My current work requires me to go through a large highway construction project twice a day, so I don't plan to replace the windshield unless this job ends or the windshield gets so bad it affects my vision.
'05 with 155k and about to get at least it's 3rd tomorrow. I only know the one on there is a replacement is because the glass guy pointed out that a previous installer had broken all the tabs off and just glued the a-pillar covers on. So he stopped and ordered 2 new ones and coming back out to do it right tomorrow.
I think I still hold the record. I'm on Windshield #7 but it got a pretty big rock ding a couple of years ago right in the middle. I just filled it as much as possible and left it there. #7 I paid for myself because the insurance company won't pay for windshields on my car anymore.
I replaced our in the Clubman in October but evidently the broken one was ot an OEM. We bought Lulu has a CPO from our local dealer. CarFax shows it was originally out of NY so it probably happened there. I don't think windshields replacement would show up on CarFax so there is now way of knowing. The Safelite Tech. said it wasn't OEM but a cheap knock off.
