Got a bad oil leak in an 09 Cooper that is giving me fits. Just replaced the turbo oil lines but leak is still there. Leaks bad enough that once you start the car about a minute and a half later oil starts dripping on the floor. I've tore this car apart three times trying to find it. A lot of oil under the turbo but not sure if it is my main oil leak. Looking for any advice as I don't really want to make a $600+ guess on the turbo. I have the gaskets for the oil filter houseing so I will do those but as bad as this was leaking I thought it should be easy to see where this is coming from. Got some pictures and keep in mind the block was cleaned the first time I put the lines in. Car has been run for about 5 minutes and you can see all the oil down the side of the block.
Did you tighten the AN fittings at either end of the oil line properly? Did you torque the banjo bolts properly?
I would advise you to clean up the oil that is currently all over the turbo and engine.
You could have a loose fitting, or a leaking vacuum pump, or leaking oil filter housing gasket. Multiple options for leaks in that area, but if you are getting oil dripping when you start it that would assume it is a pressurized leak. (IE a loose oil feed line.)
Yep it is the super kit. I talked to one of your folks today and they basically said the same thing. I don't think I'm going to go the turbo route I just don't think it is the major leak I'm looking for so I'm going to put the oil houseing gasket in, recheck the lines and throw it back together. If it is still leaking I can take the down pipe down and let it run and see where it is coming from
Yikes. Start by following the oil; you will notice some of the oil on the engine is darker and dirtier; this is the oil furthest from the leak. Follow the oil toward the cleaner area, sometimes even spotless with just a coating of light colored oil. If you don't get anywhere you might be able to clean up the area and then watch it after to see if you can spot where it may be originating from since it happens pretty quickly. At the front of the engine (red arrow) the problem would be the oil heat exchanger or oil filter housing, or the valve cover. If a leak at the front of the engine seems to come from the top of the transmission bell housing, check if the sealing O-ring at the vacuum pump is leaking down the left side of the cylinder head (green arrow).
So I recheck the fittings and they seemed to be fine. I pulled the oil filter houseing and replaced the gasket. The smaller gasket came out east the other one not so much it basically wasn't rubber anymore and was hard plastic. Put everything back together except the down pipe and watched for a if leak. No leak spotted so I think I'm good to go at least for the major leak. Not sure if it was that gasket or what but it sure was messed up.
