Dinan Cooper (non-S) Outlook/Opinions?

Out of curiousity I visited the Dinan site, clicked on "Cooper" and wasn't surprised to see that there still is nothing currently available for this model. Is there anything that they could possibly come out with that would be even remotely exciting. Significant additional horsepower and torque are not going to be had. I guess an exhaust and intake will make it sound sporty. The Dinan badge might add a bit of prestige, but honestly if I ever see a Cooper with a JCWorks badge I'd go "wow" and then "pfft, what a waste." Will Dinan focus primarily on suspension/handling improvements instead?

Dinan kits for the MC will likely mirror those of the MCS minus the supercharger upgrades.

It's really too early to tell exactly what will come out for the MC but earlier info from Dinan indicated it might be stuff like intake, ECU, throttlebody, exhaust, etc.

Suspension and wheels should be similar options. Dinan tends to offer a broad range of upgrades.

I don't think you will see a super high powered MC from adding the Dinan upgrades but it should be interesting to see how well balanced an MC can get with the right mix of upgrades.

The big deal with Dinan is the warranty from them and that you can get them from your authorized Dinan dealer and not have to void your warranty by doing upgrades from a independent shop/ or do it yourself.

The Dinan kits are/expected to be less expensive than the similar JCW kits being offered for MC and for MCS.

I have to say......I'm pretty excited to see Dinan come out with an ECU for the Cooper. If they can tune the throttle response and get a bit more mid-range out of the base cooper I would be happy. Plus, so far there pricing seems to be reasonable on the "s" stuff.

BTW - As far as the "waste of time" attitude that most of you "S" boys talk about. Do you really even know what your talking about or when you disrespect the Cooper? If your idea of going in fast in a cooper is all about the straight line then you bought the wrong car. When I (Or anyone that knows for that matter) think about the Cooper ("S" or base) I think of one of the best handling front wheel drive cars ever built, not horsepower!!!!

I couldn't agree with you more slangager.
I have a 2002 MCS with some goodies on it, and it is fun. But if anybody bought a Cooper S because they wanted a car that would be fast in a straight line, they bought the wrong car. I plan on replacing my MCS with a Cooper when the time comes (for my purposes, the cooper does everything I want the car to do, without marking me tripple the speed limit). I also have a '91 Miata with some intake and exhaust work, it's another great example of why you don't have to go (as) fast to have fun. It's the 1.6 litre "weaker" engine, and I couldn't be happier with it. I can drive the car agressively, and I'm not going redicously fast! If I had a cooper I would very seriously consider the works kit for it, not only would it have the rareness factor, but that would also help the resale value. Simply putting an intake on a cooper makes a pretty significant difference (sound wise at least).
