2009 MC JCW - raise my shocks/coils to ideal height

Hi,

I have a 2009 MC with JCW package and whoever had it before me lowered the shocks/coils to the lowest setting. I have the tool to re-adjust the height back up to what might be normal and offer a smoother ride, but I wanted to know what is the ideal height for the shocks? Right now they are so low that driveways and bumps make the bottom of the car hit. I was thinking maybe halfway in between. The ride is also rough when not on the freeway.

Also, if I raise the shocks/coils, will this offer a smoother ride all together?

Thanks,

Mike

I would find a balance between looks and ride quality. Raise them up in 1/2 inch increments and stop when you are satisfied with both.

Increasing ride height might help smooth out your ride quality but you will have to check and see if you can feel the difference for your given roads. Other factors that determine ride quality are tire size (sidewall height) and which tire you have as some don't offer a smooth ride such as many runflats. The lower the sidewall and the stiffer the construction of the tire sidewall (XL load rated tires) the harsher the ride. Old and worn tires will also be harsher and noisy as the rubber gets harder over time and use.

Increasing ride height might give your springs and shocks a little more travel and putting them to the lowest ride setting gives them certainly the least travel and hence potential for a very firm ride.

Setting the suspension to a halfway point is not a bad idea or you can try 10mm drop front and rear from the highest setting, make sure the front is a little lower or same as the rear.
