Hey guys, posting for my friend who's got a 2012 S Hatch with the Automatic trans.. The shifter interlock solenoid operation suddenly got noisier in operation for him.
Still releases the shifter okay, but the noise level under the shifter went up quite a bit when you step on the brake pedal.
Common issue? Solenoid or interlock on its way out?

 

Issue was fixed with the replacement of the shifter assembly, which means a new solenoid assembly is part of the repair. So, noise level when stepping on the brake pedal is back to normal for him.
The interesting part was that there was no gradual ramp up of noise from the release solenoid assembly.
One day it just got much noise in operation.
I'll be keeping an eye on my own Auto Mini since I have less miles than my friend , but am slowly getting to where his shifter started acting up at around
50K miles.
