Are there any better (more detailed/ specific/ technical) service resources for my Mini R52 than the Bentley service manual? Their convertible section leaves a great deal to be desired.
Most search info available on soft top repairs relates to the sliding sunroof, my trouble occurs during raising and lowering, usually stopping during the closing sequence.
Now, with the top closed fully, the convertible top control switch LED blinks constantly during driving and continues for about a minute after the ignition is turned to off.
I would like to know the conditions that need to be met at the convertible top control module for normal operations. That is things like switches and sensors open or closed. Signals on lines high or low, constant or pulsed.
Am I asking to much? Bentley? Is there something better?
You can find more detail in BMW's online reference: https://www.minitis.com/. It is what dealers and independent shops use. 1 day access costs $30.
For the topics you've mentioned, you'll probably be looking in the wiring diagrams.
For the blinking , its reading a error with the hall sensor or the closing position of the top. Does it close fully, Have to cycle the top up and down and make sure there are no hand up , have you greased all the pivot points?
Bentley shows at least 4 Hall sensors in the illustration of the up/down mechanism. I suspected them as well. They look cheap. Can you test or measure them? Is there a best procedure/roof position to access the sensors? This problem has been intermittent but presently seems to be mostly in broken mode. When the top functions, it moves and sounds just like when it was new. If I can't measure Hall sensor signal, would you replace all of the possible sensors?
Great! Are they sold as a set under one part number? Are they sold individually with seperate part numbers? I couldn't readily find them on your site. Any replacement procedures or resource recommendations?
