License Plate Lights - Help Needed in San Jose, CA

Hi... I have an R53 Mini with no power to the license plate lights. I pulled the rear hatch handle off and cannot see any visible corrosion. I dont know how to remove the bulb assembly - and dont want to force it or break it.

Can anyone help me or show me how to remove the bulb assembly? Or, if you are local to San Jose, would you consider stopping by and showing me how to find a solution?

Thanks in advance... Steve (San Jose, CA)

both my lights blew out at the same time. and I didn't know it. but theres just plastic covers over the bulbs. I popped them off with a trim removal tool. just prying it in the axle direction popped them out really quickly, then the blubs are just held in by compression clamps. mine looked like they were still connected but they didn't work, I had to verify with a multi meter before I put the new bulbs in for my own sanity
