R56 Boost PSI Factory & waste gate
Boost PSI Factory & waste gate
Does anyone knows:
- Minimum psi of factory waste gate? (Ex: 7psi)
- Minimum and maximum boost that the turbo can provide by factory settings? (Ex: min 5psi, 6th gear highway to 15psi, 3rd gear high end max)
- Boost by gear?
1st gear, between 5-8 psi
2nd gear, between 7-10 psi
3rd gear, between 9-13 psi...
Etc...
What I'm trying to fing out is the parameters that MINI sets on the computer to provide an amount of boost to the car...

Waste gate operates on a vacuum, not boost. Waste Gate Duty Cycle (WGDC) controls the amount of boost from the turbo. WGDC is determined by the ECU based on many "operating conditions" --- gas pedal position, air temp, gear selected, and many others.
Not sure what you're gonna do with the info you want, But you probably ought to talk 1 on 1 with a tuner, to learn how the system works.

The reason why I need the this info is because I'm getting an upgraded turbochager for my car and I need this info for baseline...
For example... Now I know that the max "min waste gate PSI" should be < 10PSI.... Because you can always go up but you can't lower the boost under the "minimum waste gate PSI"...
I'll probably buy a 7PSI one and set it for 10.

If you buy a larger turbo let it be known that your ECU may not like it at all requiring a tune. These ECU's are very finicky when it comes to upgrading to a larger turbo, if the ECU doesn't like the boost you'll go into half power or limp mode. The stock turbo can handle much more boost than you getting, like others have stated boost is computer controlled.
If your aim is higher boost most just go for a Manic Tune that is far cheaper than upgrading a turbo, the ECU is reprogrammed to allow for higher boost without the ECU freaking out. A Manic Stage 2+ Tune targets 20 psi boost pressures on the turbos that come with these turbo Mini's.
If you're thinking about adjusting the waste-gate actuator arm that closes the waste-gate, don't even think about doing it, you'll be very sorry that you did!
