R50/53 MINI *******!!! Stole my valve stem caps!!!
MINI *******!!! Stole my valve stem caps!!!
Unbelievable!!!
My wife and I and our two children went in our 2004 I/B MINI Cooper S to Road America this past weekend. We had so many people come and talk to us about our MINI and just as many looking at it inside and out! We kinda felt special! We even talked with people from the East Meets West Meet that was held in Rockford in June.
The Champ Cars put on a GREAT show for us!
A perfect weekend, until we came back in the afternoon to our MINI only to find out that some jerk had stolen all of our valve stem caps. Come on!!! I had the generic "MINI" caps that said "MINI" on them. A whopping $10 off eBay!
The thing that upsets me the most is 2 fold. One, there only $10.00! Buy your own!
Second, I cannot believe with all the MINI owners we have met that one would stoop so low to take my caps. I hope the jerk is on NAM and reads this. You did a big discredit to the entire MINI community.

Wow, that's very low.
Who in the right mind would steal caps?
But Ive had my share of a neighbor's kid stealing my metal valve caps
off my commuter parked on the driveway. One time I was upstairs just
looking outside checking out how the weather was through the window
which over looks my commuter... and coincidentally saw the kid actually
kneeling over and taking more caps off my car! I went downstairs and
nailed the little bastard.
Since then, he does not come near my cars.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Definitely NOT cool! I wouldn't assume it was a MINI owner. Could have been anyone.

Caps left at tire shop
Bummer about your tire valve caps.
I got new tires recently and didn't even think about the caps until I went to check the air a few days later. Black plastic caps! They must have changed the stems along with the tires and didn't transfer the caps. The good news is that now I don't worry about having them pinched!

Bummer......that totally stinks! We went to MINI Meet East in Charleston SC in 2002 and a bunch were stolen out of the supposedly "Secure" parking lot which had 24 hour guards the entire time. And it DID turn out to be MINI/Mini owners that did it as we found out later.....it's quite a shame......
Cheers!

sorry, it's really not funny

On a serious note many kids take them for their bikes and they don’t have to stoop as low.
I've had two sets of OEM black plastic caps stolen. The neighborhood punk kids think it is cool to steal as many as they can. I guess it is prelim to stealing the whole car...as soon as they learn how to drive. I though I was being singled out, but a quick look around my parking lot showed that most of the cars were without caps.
When I buy my next set I'll catch 'em. A quick trip to Radio Shack for a high db buzzer and a simple trip switch...set it at night...throw the buzzer/battery inside the wheel hub.

I agree with sndwave. I had a M3 as my last car and had a hard time keeping stainless steel caps on it. Sometimes I would lose just two caps, I'm sure it was kids taking them for their bikes.

I remember some comic saying once that there are not enough valve stem caps in the world. He said that we are exactly one cap short, and that the guy who is missing his takes one off of someone elses' car, and the cycle continues!
I have cool Union Jack with "MINI" chrome caps. No one has bothered them yet. Although, I keep my Mini in a locked garage.

I had ONE valve stem cap (I have the MINI logo ones) over July 4th weekend. I mean, why get just ONE!? So, I ordered a new set and now I have three spares. Which means the next time, someone will get all four and I'll only have three!
If they are metal caps, use a crescent wrench (or a fixed width spanner if you're ****) and tighten them down. Not likely the perps will have a wrench on them. Then again, they might.
