I thought I read or heard that an automatic transmisssion would be available on the S in '05. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, when will it be available? Will it be a CVT or traditional 5 speed?

Yes, it's true. Available in January 05. It will be a conventional automatic with shift levers on the steering wheel.

 

As much as I love stick...........THAT would be fun to play with!!!!!

 

Just like scotteast stated: 6-speed Getrag automatic with paddle shifters, production starting Jan '05.

 

I heard the company that is in the process of making the transmissions now is called Aisin and they are an outstanding Japanese company making quality transmissions for car companies. They are in the news for being the first to make a 6-speed automatic for 2-4 ton light duty trucks.

However, no official word yet from MINI that they will be offering them for the S. However, posts on MINI2 have reported that people have driven them and they are good. (must be pre-production models) Speculation and hope is that they will be 6-speed, but no one knows for sure yet or is not saying. :smile: I can't wait to test drive one!

 

Forgot to add: I've heard too that they have paddle shifters with Jan 05 production. :smile:
