R56 jcw drivetrain problems/questions
I have a 2010 JCW. for back stories sake: CAI, 200 cell cat dp, factory jcw catback sans resonator, forge bov, intercooler muffler delete, forge intercooler hoses, citreon pcv block off plugs, noise maker delete.
problem #1:Idle stumble. typically happens after running over 20 minutes happens at any maintained throttle position. typically (reproducible) at idle or on the highway in 6th around 2-3k rpms, returns to normal with more throttle. It has thrown codes a few times. P2b64 intake manifold leak error, P277a misfire cylinder 4 min, P2781 misfire multiple cylinder max, P2a7d rear o2 min. I have changed the plugs out 2x nows with no change. I have replaced all 4 coils no change. I walnut blasted the head, did the citreon recall plugs (jmturbocoopers kit) that plug passenger side pcv hose to eliminate carbon building issue. Seafoam every 5,000 miles. I have been told to clean the MAP sensors now and reassess.
problem #2: "break up" issues- so under throttle, heavy throttle, and passing situations only in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear, I experience what appears to me to be a fuel break up or boost holding issues. in these particular situations of which are happening at will if any of the symptoms or causes are replicated, revving between 2800-5300 rpms like I said passing someone, merging on the highway, aggressive driving, autocross, track days, pulling away from a rolling situation like the car in front of you turned. the only time this does not happen is any kind of maintaining or gentle throttle input situation. it sounds like a popping and break up like even though you havent lifted off the throttle it halts power or misses on a cylinder or losses boost pressure, this will happen 2-10x over a 1-3 second span. Very short periods of time but not healthy. as stated with problem #1 I have replaced most of the ignition system, I also have changed the fuel filter in line and in the tank, the HPFP was replaced via dealer before I purchased the car.
what I have been told is that its a leaning out issue, map sensor read issue, or this is a collaboration between the clutch wearing out and the stupid *** electronic differential trying to halt control slip by breaking on each wheel at WOT at peak torque.
Im going to attempt to clean the MAP(s) plural tonight and see if that solves 1 or both of the issues But I would really like it if you all have encountered this or are a mechanic that has dealt with this issue, or taken it to someone that has fixed the issue, what was done? what was the diagnosis? what parts were used?
at this point, a reputable source states that its the electronic diff fighting basic operations so this leads to the breaking up issue and that I need to replace the clutch, flywheel, and install a mechanical diff. that is a outrageously significant amount of money and would like to see if it can be postponed or written off all together.
please help me. this is my 3rd mini and it has been nothing but a disaster since I purchased it in march. (my friends have nick named it Reagan, as in Poltergeist) if this helps show how much of a PITA this has been.
