CEL light on, no codes, "Italian tune up" fixed the light.. ????
Hi,
Had a code last week and it turned out to be a torn cold side tube to the turbo...put an alta aluminum tube on, cleared the codes and the car was superb.
Then hit a cel today (yell, solid again). No codes on the obd reader....which is a good one, and was perplexed. Cleared codes anyway. Started the car up...the yellow light came on.
Went to autozone to get some seafoam...but before I did that, got in, started it, and revved it once warmed up for 30 seconds. Turned it off. Turned it on. No CEL.
Turned in on and off a few times, no code. Did the seafoam anyway, no code still.
Anyone know what is the issue...is this an omen about carbon? No big deal. I don't mind doing this "revving" every now and then...but it would be nice to know a reason for the above.
Bought it used with 78k...prior owner had a good service record, clean carfax. ... Clean car.
Thanks in advance all!
Jeff

Yes, some codes thrown are not readable by some OBD readers and are called "dealer codes" as typically the dealer is the only one that can read them. As far as a clean up, you can read more about it and how to here as it's a good idea to do if it hasn't been done already.

If you have a wireless OBDII adapter try the BMWhat app for the iPhone or Android. It will read and clear BMW specific codes in addition to being able to perform limited coding functions on the CAS, KOMBI and FRM modules, as well as reset service intervals and register a new battery.
