Lost Serpentine Belt 2x in week

New to owning my first 08 MCS. Two weeks ago I had into the mini dealership and they did the timing recall. Everything was good till last Friday while driving my battery light came on I instantly new I had lost my serpentine belt. No worries, it happens. Got a new one, replaced it without a hitch. Until today I left the gym and once again the light came on and it started a little squeal. Limped her home to find the belt missing again.

So what would be some possible issues causing this? Could it have been something the dealership did during the recall fix?

BTW she only has 31,000 on the clock. Any help is appreciated. I did search but finding this specific answer wasn't found in the first couple pages of searching. Thanks.

Really? That job is a PITA.

If the belt isn't centered on each pulley (one rib off), it will fail quickly. That's the only thing I can think of.

Update...

I went and picked up an new belt from a local auto parts store, needless to say I told the it was the wrong belt but they insisted I didn't know what I was talking about. Good thing I drove by where I thought I had lost the other belt and found it on the side of the road. It was in perfect condition. So I put it back on.

I'll be contacting my local mini dealer today to see if something the did during the recall last week could have been left loose or something else could have gone wrong. And returning a belt to say "told you so" this morning as well.

Any other advice on what to check please keep me posted.

Expecting the dealer to admit they screwed up? I'm real curious how that turns out.

Hope it gets solved for you!

That's the first place I would start as well since there was no issue until after the repairs they did. I worked as an SA at a dealership for a bit and sometimes things did happen, so starting there is a good step. Let us know what they say.
