I spoke with the dealer a couple of weeks ago, and they said they are expecting the upgrade to be out by Jan, and would be priced under 1K, with the intent that any owner could upgrade. I told them to put me on the list. I bought the MC with the intent to upgrade the engine hp when it came out.

I saw someone saying the MCS upgrade is 4K plus install??? Is that true? Has anyone heard reliable info re: what the MC upgrade will cost?
Thx

No official U.S. pricing has been released yet. Anything that follows is probably speculation based on converting the price of the british JCW kit into USD.

I just got an email from MINIMANIA about the 200hp upgrade for $5000. I would probably die in a fiery car crash with that. But a 140hp upgrade sounds excellent. I'M IN!

OUCH!! So much for under 1K for the upgrade! At 4K I won't bother. It would be cheaper to sell my MC and purchase a MCS. Maybe the 1K is the econo version--- you get two food deprived official MINI hamsters, and a precision BMW exercise wheel with a piece of food that sits just ahead of the hamsters-- the hamster roadster concept.... well I can always hope for a great 3.2 upgrade.
Well I'm off to start saving-- already have enough for one hamster.

you can get the ECU tuning for $300 from superchips which will boost the reg cooper to almost 130hp, but where it really shines is the low end torque....have a friend that had it done and after driving it definitely felt quicker than my MCS up to about 3500 to 4000 rpm....over 4000 rpms I think my MCS might be a little quicker still....I'd be a little nervous about the warranty, but he was told it can be set back to the original specs before taking it in for a major warranty issue such as transmission, etc......

Can you say more about the ECU tuning? I haven't heard of this. Is it an additional chip added to the car's computer? Does it void the mini warrenty? I'll ask the service manager about it. It sounds like a great option for the price.

ECU = Engine Control Unit.....and normally tampering with the ECU does void the warranty, although there can be some exceptions. It is not an additional chip, it is either a new chip or a reprogrammed (flashed) one. Most chips now are reprogrammable so they could probably just flash your current ECU chip.

So is there a site or company that does this-- is it called superchips. I have a vague sense that the IMG SRC (whatever this means) you have included are directions to more info-- haven't a clue how to interpret this info... sorry.
