R.I.P. Mini Me NEW PICS POSTED
Last night I rolled the MINI. I'm sure it is totalled. That little thing held up very well as far as keeping me safe. All of the airbags deployed and I wasn't injured by them. I'm sure they helped keep me safe. I am pretty banged up, Reinjured my knee, the one I just had my A.C.L. replaced. I also pulled a muscle in my back. You wouldn't believe all the pieces that fell off the car. Fender flares, all my lights, in pieces. While it rolled the door came open I think, because it opens up ALOT further than it use to. On the bright side I think we're gonna order an S this time. The purple haze is the color I think we're gonna get. Other than the supercharger and LSD it'll have pretty much the same equipment as my deceased had. I'll post pics tomorrow when I can get to the car. I was on an exit ramp and a deer ran in front of me. I slammed on my brakes and lost control and went off the road.

Tough luck Teampajn, deer are one of my biggest worries on the open road. There are so many of them and they are constantly on the move. You probably would not be any better off if you'd hit the deer and remained in control either, a good sized deer can total one of our babies in the blink of an eye!
Glad to hear all the air bags performed as designed and your injuries are not serious.

Damn, glad you were able to walk away from that one. I too swerved to avoid a deer once and hit a small tree because of it (old Mazda SE-5 pickup). Hope you and your ride are back rolling again soon.
Best Wishes!

Wow, teampajn....what a scary moment that must have been. Good thing you were in Mini Me...our MINIs are tough little beasts. How long will it take you to get the new S? I'm sure there will be no issues with the insurance, as deer must be considered an act of God, and unavoidable. I agree that striking the deer would have been just as hard on the MINI.
Very best wishes to you as you go through the waiting period again! Please keep us posted...

Wow! Glad you're basically ok. MINIs can be replaced, people can't. Good luck with the new 'S'. Purple Haze is a gorgeous color! (Can't wait to see one in person...)

ooh teampajn, that sucks!
To think only a few months ago we were caravaning down to The Dragon!
ummm, how did you roll it? Was a deer involved?
Glad you're safe - of course, with a MINI, it's tough to really hurt yourself (not that anyone should go out and test this
)

Glad to see that you are okay!! I'm always asked if my MINI is safe. I think, instead of trying to convince them, I'll just refer them to this site.
My wife rolled her Saturn and walked away from it. The thing that stuck out for her the most was that the sound was worse than the impact.

Not that i WANTED you to test the safety features, but i'm glad their safety is all it cracked up to be.
sorry you had to find out firsthand. Glad you are alright.
GL with the ins. co. and your new MCS!!

I hope I answer all you're questions. I didn't acually hit the deer, so they told me it would be covered in my collision ins. I have Country Companies insurance. They told me there will be someone to assess the condition of the car and let me know today. I didn't get a really good look at the car when it happened because it was dark, but from what I could see that night and from all the broken parts sitting at the scene it has to be totalled. My MINI did not have DSC, but may be seriously considering it now. I don't know what exactly happened when I hit the dirt. It did land on it's wheels, so I know it rolled at least once all the way around. ryephile, Next year I'll have a new one to caravan down, and with a little more pep. My family is joking around with me teling me I just rolled it so I could get an S. Nope, just a benefit. I gotta find some silver lining in the whole deal. The part that sucks is now we're down to 1 vehicle and when we got MINI ME it came right off the showroom floor, now we gotta wait.
The good news is there's an S in your future. The bad news is you'll be whacked with a big increase in insurance rates.
I had an accident two years ago (pre-MINI) and lost a safe driver discount and got hit with a surcharge that lasts for three years. It is like paying for the damage after the fact. And that was even though it was my first accident in over 30 years of driving (all with State Farm). On top of that, I wasn't even ticketed--my first and only ticket was over 25 years earlier. But does all that matter to the insurance company? NO! It really sucks.

First of all, I'm glad to hear you're OK. Rolling a vehicle at any speed is a frightening experience. I rolled my 96 Ford Explorer after only 11 months of ownership. It rolled 3 times at 70 MPH, and I was lucky to walk away without a single scratch. I don't care what anyone else says, SEAT BELTS DO SAVE LIVES !!
As far as insurance companies go, we here in Massachusetts get whacked for 6 years worth of insurance surcharges for all accidents/speeding tickets. It really does suck. But I look at it this way. I've been driving for 21 years, and the sum total of all my insurance premiums/surcharges are still (barely) less than the cost of the fully loaded Eddie Bauer Explorer that I totaled. I got real lucky with my insurance company. They assessed and totaled the vehicle in 1 day, and I had my check 2 days later, and I purchased a brand new 97 Explorer 2 days after that. I hate paying so much money for insurance, but at least they handled this episode professionally and quickly.

Hey - sorry for the loss, but at least you came out of it fairly well.
I don't mean to drag out the bad memories, but could you give a little more information on exactly what happened? Specifically:
I'm just curious how well the MINI performs in these types of situations, and what sorts of things people should know in advance (such as ABS 'stutter' inhibits steering control). Thanks in advance!

I don't mean to drag out the bad memories, but could you give a little more information on exactly what happened? Specifically:
- when you hit the brakes, did they lock up and/or contribute to losing control or did the ABS work properly?
- did you slide off the road or did you veer off (avoiding the deer)?
- what actually caused the roll - embankment, wheel catching an obstacle, something else?
- did you have any problems exiting the car once it came to a stop?

gravedgr,
I moved the steering slightly and lost control. I was on an off ramp so there was a small curve. I wish I knew every detail, it was very dark there so I couldn't see what was going on. I'm not sure the abs was working or not because I started sliding sideways after I hit the brakes. I'm not sure the reason why it rolled for sure, I was almost sideways when I hit the ditch. The right front end hit the bottom of the ditch, I may have turned sideways then and rolled, or there was a couple of fence posts that I drove up onto. These were thick posts not stakes that hold fence along highway. It was heavy duty. Maybe when I get a good look at the car I can figure out exactly how it happened.

Just got back from a visit from my MA. Ordered a purple haze/black S. Cold weather package, premium package, fog lamps, and chrome interior and exterior packages. They say it could be in at the end of October. Last time it was off the floor. This wait is gonna drive me nuts!

Teampajn,
I sorry to hear of your accident and hope that you will recover. Sometimes it takes a few days to feel the impact of the crash. In the middle of the night with not so good visibility it is a shocker to see a deer when you least expect it.
Your MINI was really crashed up but you did well. Good thing there were no other cars or people involved.
