New JCW Roadster but no Pops :(

I'm the proud owner of a 2015 JCW Mini Roadster and loving it so far (UK Edition)

Originally I ordered a MINI Roadster S edition but a few days after my order I got a call from my dealer to advise they couldn't proceed as they stopped making them!

I ordered a JCW that was in stock (Built March 2015) and received it the other day, loving it so far but I'm really disappointed that the exhaust doesn't appear to gurgle / pop like the S edition I tested in the dealer.

Can anyone confirm that the JCW Edition is meant to pop ? I've tried it in both Sport and Non - Sport mode and driven it over 100 miles in case it needed to "warm up" but still nothing

Thanks!

It should pop in sport...especially on a JCW. I have noticed on some MINIs, the popping doesn't get really defined until the car has broken in.

Ah thanks, all is not lost then!

What is the miles for the break in period usually?

Also the exhaust has to get warmed up pretty good before it really starts to pop a bit. Give it time

Don't worry, it will get worse with time when the exhaust is warmed up and after break in period. It is one of my issues as far as I am concerned because it is too noisy from time to time.

I was even thinking of replacing the exhaust line for something more toned down.

My 2014 pops in Sport. I like the exhaust way better than my 2007 MCS. The F56 MCS exhaust is nonexistent, don't know about the JCW. The aftermarket JCW tuning kit has a whole different exhaust with a BT controller. I'm pretty sure the factory JCW doesn't have that exhaust.

I have driven a F56 MCS as well as one with the JCW Pro exhaust and a factory F56 JCW:

- The stock F56 MCS exhaust is sounds the same as a stock R56 IMO from the outside, but since the cabin is so much quieter, you can't hear it as well.
- The JCW Pro exhaust sound BEAUTIFUL both in normal mode and the open valved race mode. The race mode is loud without being obnoxious or drone-y. You can definitely hear it in the cabin. The pops sound like gunshots and the burbles are more like growling.
- The fJCW exhaust is similar to what's been put on previous JCW models and kind of sounds like the JCW Pro exhaust in normal, maybe a little louder. I had no problems hearing it in the cabin and love the sound. You can, of course, fit the JCW Pro to the fJCW as an accessory.

I would also add that the JCW exhaust in general on both 2nd gen and 3rd gen models will really amplify the pops and burbles you would normally hear.

F56 Pops

I drove a F56 Factory JCW. In sport mode it pops when decelerating. I have a 2010 MCS with a JCW Tuning Kit installed and tuned by the dealer which does NOT pop.

The popping went away when the 2nd gen MINIs came out and was brought back for the LCI in 2011 (2012 for the JCW) when MCSs switched to the N18 engine, so a 2010 wouldn't have popped.

I knew my Mayfair wouldn't pop. Actually I didn't want it to. I was just responding to dube53

The JCW N14 2009-2012 pops after warm up and in sport. The 2013+ N18 JCW Should pop even more ( then the 14 ) when cold to warm and on sport. That's what I have seen in the two. Seem like the N18 JCW pops more in general warm and cold vs the N14 JCW.

Also the N18 and N14 exhaust needs to be broken in. Once you get a couple thousand miles the noise changes and it pops more. So that might be the issue with your N18 JCW.

New JCW Roadster but no Pops :(

It will always pop when engine braking in sport mode. If you stab the throttle at low speed maybe 2nd gear then let off and coast. As others have said the car needs to be fully warmed up.

I've found its particularly fun in a multi level parking garage. I can sometimes get a loud backfire in there. Then I get a serenade from the car alarms.
