R56 Window Rant
Window Rant
My 08 Justa is having the issue where the window drops halfway every time I close it. I followed the instructions here and elsewhere on the net to reset the limits - basically holding the button for a few seconds after full down and up a few times. It didn't help.
I've also read that Mini has a software update to fix the problem. I called a dealer today to ask about it. The service guy said there is an update that fixes the issue 95% of the time. (The other 5% is corroded connections inside the door.)
I was hoping that since this appears to be a BUG in Mini's software that it should be covered for free. No such luck. They charge $135 and it takes 3 hours. When I suggested it should be covered by Mini I got several excuses:
1) I have to pay for the tech's time to install the software and reset everything. (Shouldn't Mini reimburse the dealer for that like a warranty or recall?)
2) It upgrades the software for the whole car, not just the window module. (I don't really care about all of that. I just want the malfunctioning window fixed. Mini chose to bundle that fix with a bunch of other stuff.)
3) It's like upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Microsoft charges for that too. (While that isn't the best metaphor, to stick with it I would liken it more to the frequent FREE updates to fix bugs and security issues.)
So I'm going to try calling Mini corporate this week. Has anyone had any luck getting this fixed for free (or reduced cost) out of warranty?
I did read where one guy had success by unhooking his battery for a few minutes. I may try that before shelling out $135.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any independent Mini shops in NW nor Chicago which is the closest major city. (At first I thought you meant Indy = Indianapolis lol.)
I've googled "Mini Cooper Repair" and my zip code. Most results are generic. The first looked like it was a Mini Shop (M&M Repair), but when I looked at their webpage a little closer found it was like a form letter that inserted whatever car manufacturer you searched for in the business description.
Would an independent shop even have Mini software?
