Just purchased my 15% Alta sc pulley but never bought a pulley removal tool. Do I need to use the special removal tool or can I just rent a generic one from my local auto parts store?

 

You need to get the special tool; I don't think a generic pulley puller will do it without damaging something. Look in NAM marketplace, there are usually a few used ones for sale if you don't want to pay for a new one from one of the on-line MINI parts sellers.
