Small black Delphi evap canister rattling / ticking?

So, I thought this was being caused by either my timing chain tensioner or my belt damper, but I listened with a long screwdriver today and it's DEFINITELY the small Delphi 1997273 evap canister to the left of the intercooler that's ticking, exactly like in this video:

Does anyone know what this means? Does the canister itself need to be replaced or is it something else that needs to be addressed that's causing this? I read somewhere that it's a fuel tank overpressure valve?

Never heard it tick like that. Do you have a code: P0441 (leak in evap system) and P0456 (purge control valve malfunction) ?

Mine ticked like that earlier this year randomly and it freaked me out a bit until I figured out where the sound was coming from. I maybe only heard it one other time briefly but chalked it up as a result of not driving my car during the winter. Just assumed the valve or whatever in there was sticky from lack of use. Have you driven the car much lately?

Folks have posted they found it at autozone as a widle available part for just a few $$...think less than HALF...MAYBE 25% of what mini sells them for...the same part is used on many cars...
A bit of searching might get you the make and model cars it shares to order one from....
One question..are you 100% sure you hooked the vacume lines right after The sc oil service you did if I recall right...
If you mixed something up...might explain the sound, and the performance issues...think you are the poster with a couple threads as of late...

The ticking noise is normal operation of the vent valve, make sure the valve is facing the right direction, connector facing down. In the video you posted it sounds like either the belt tensioner failed, or the supercharger is low on oil and failing. Hope that helps.

You nailed it! Double-checked the orientation & sure enough, it was upside down, electrical plug facing up. Dumb. All good now :-)

Thank you mtechnki2 - I had the same issue. I recently had to disconnect the two hoses at the evap cannister in order to replace the motor mount and silly me put it upside down as well. Luckily I have a second 06 MINI which I also confirmed after reading your post. Flipped it back over and I should be good. Thanks again!

This should be a stick mods.
