Pros and cons of adding these mods...
Going to be making some mods to my mini and want to know the pros and cons of them.
The first mod is doing the delete turbo exhaust. Was planning on just removing the exhaust and adding a piece of stainless or alumnium tube is it's place. What kind of hp gains can I expect from this? Will it be too much air for the stock intercooler to handle?
2nd mod is adding a cai. Was thinking of this one
K&N 69-2004TTK 69 Series Typhoon Black Air Intake Kit
K&N claims 11 HP gains by adding this. I've also seen this one
AEM 21-699C Cold Air Intake System
AEM claims 14 HP gain. $100 more dollars than the K&N to gain 3 HP. I imagine with this one I would get more air suction noise during had excellerating.
Is there any negatives to during either of these mods. I dont want to add anything to my mini that's going to hurt it in the long run.
Any and all input is welcome
Thanks!!

Give more background on your car and what you are looking for.
Some guys are happy with the AEM intake, because it is truly a cold air intake. The K&N intake sucks in air from the engine compartment.
Exhaust HP improvements come with high flow cats (or deleting the cats), and this usually requires a tune to get the most benefit (and hide the CEL from not having a cat). Drone is common when going with straight pipes.
If you are looking for HP, a tune is your best friend.
Handling mods are more common.
Have fun,
Mike

Cut the second cat and resonator out, leave the muffler and replace 3 ft section with 2 1/4 stainless steel pipe. This does not throw a CEL since its after the post cat o2 sensor. This mod gives the car a throaty exhaust note and no drone, braley noticeable unless floored.

If you can weld this is a 20$ mod.

K&N intake sucks air from the air duct from the front grill. The OEM box is a contained box with a lower hole at the bottom which is connected to a tube that attaches to the front grill through a duct.
AEM intake sucks air from the air from the hood duct which been proven not much air goes through the hood grill. How effective and how much 'cold' air does it bring into the intake nobody knows.
I researched both, and decided on the K&N one since i found one for 100 usd in the marketplace on this forum.
As someone mentioned an intake is mainly for the 'cool' factor. I did get better throttle response, but that about it. How much HP i gain I don't think much nor do I care. I spent 100 usd for a cool 'sounding' device like the Forge BOV. I am happy with the purchase since it was cheap and got more 'sounds' out of my car. that being said, IMO I wouldn't pay full price for either intake systems.
What I would done is spend the money on MarioKart's DP. A lot of the members have great reviews and purchased one all over the country. His DP is priced in the middle between the brand names and ebay ones. He made a version that doesn't throw off the CEL code. PM him for one. I am saving up my pennies for his DP =)
Also if you want the best bang for the buck. Ask MarioKart for the Manic tune or buy a JB+
