Removed my seats in the Mini and started car to move it and of course the Airbag light came on. Put seats back in and thought that would clear the light, but it didn't. Anyway to reset that myself or does it need to cleared with a OBDII meter?

Airbags in the seats and that is what I did. Hosed them out to make them look new.

 

I did not know that the R57 has Airbags on the seats.
Since I have a R56 I know under my seat is only the Airbag controller (2 front Airbags, and 4 lateral Airbags only) but not additional Airbags on the seats.

U.S. and European MINI have side airbags in the front seats, and there is an airbag label attached to the side of the seat.

The airbag warning will trigger if the car is turned on while the seat airbag is disconnected. The warning will not reset by itself. Reset with an OBD tool is required.

For a moment I thought the cabrio cames with airbags under the seats!

 

...And generic scan tools like the ones you find at Pep Boys or Auto Zone do not clear the proprietary airbag codes in MINIs. You need to get a MINI-specific scan tool like the Bavarian Technik tool.
