R50/53 Questions for those purchasing their MINI from Out-of-State dealers
Questions for those purchasing their MINI from Out-of-State dealers
Hello,
After reading a number of positive comments and experiences on this forum and mini2.com, I've ordered my PW/B MC from Classic Mini and will be having it shipped to Portland, OR. I've never purchased a car from an out-of-state dealer before and hence, have these questions:
1. Will the car be insured during shipping? Will the dealer insure it, or, should I do it?
2. After I receive the car, if I happen to find any scratches or nicks, or, if something doesn't work right, what would I do?
3. The MINI will be transported on a covered truck. Will the car be in a drivable condition right after I get it off the truck? Will it have any gas in it?
4. The few times that I've been involved in purchasing cars (for me and for my friends), the dealer usually does a walk-through with me (the buyer) to verify that everything is OK also described in this MINI FAQ: http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?f...elivery_checks). As part of this walk-through, the dealer also describes/explains the features of the car and their use and care. How would that happen in this case?
5. What about the programmable options (once again refer to http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?f...elivery_checks and the link to 'memory options' on that page)? Will the dealer give me a list of options and have me pick the ones I want programmed as part of the 'dealer prep' process? If I need any options changed, can I go to my local MINI dealer and will they do it?
I've sent these questions to my MA, but, haven't heard back yet. In the meantime, how have all of you that have had their MINIs shipped dealt with these?
Thanks,
MediocreFred.

1. yes it will. all shipping companys have ins. against anything happening to the car. but you might also have to have ins on it before it even leaves the dealer. your ma will know for sure.
2. the car is inspected before leaving so they know things work. look at the car before you sign for it. anything you are not happy about the shipping compnay must put in writting on the shipper and you need to make a clame to get it fixed. they go over the car before they load it ansx note anything also when the sign it over at the dealer also.
3. it should be
4. you lose out on this, but you have an owners manual. if you read it all you will know more than the car does.
5. they will set all this up a head of time.
don't worry it will all work out fine. tons of people are doing it and not having a problem. my next order (if any) will be from out of state and i will go pick it up and drive it home. only 3 hours, but still fun.

We live in Vancouver, WA and bought our car from Classic. Check out www.pdxmini.org for local events when you get your car
1. Regardless of what the shipping company does, you should insure it. The dealer will not.
2. You will probably have to go after the shipper if there is cosmetic damage. Julie was really good at sending pics for us, so you may want to ask for a bunch of them before the car ships out. You can also get on the phone and ask specific questions about the condition of the car.
I would also spend alot of time checking out the car before you sign for it off the truck.
3. It should come off the truck just like it would be if you picked it up from the dealer.
4. Over the phone. We can help you out here with questions post-delivery.
5. Rasmussen will charge you for changing the options. Have Classic set them before they deliver the car.
Who is your MA? Julie usually got back to me the same day, if not within the hour.
