Pirelli pZero replacement for 19 in Contryman

I'm starting to shop for replacement 19in tires for my CM JCW

Currently running the OEM Pirelli pZero RunFlats

Looking at non-RF tires 225/40R19

Any suggestions, experiences?

If you have separate winter wheels and tires and are looking for a Max Performance Summer tire replacement for OEM runflats then-

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...wdp=N&showcm=N

Michelin Pilot Super Sport $261 each is an excellent street tire for comfort and handling.

For Value -
Continental ExtremeContact DW $185 is very good for street use. Stronger on comfort than on handling.

If you don't have winter wheels and tires and need a tire that you can use year round except for heavy/deep snow then-

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...wws=N&showcm=N

Continental ExtremeContact DWS $194 each

For better handling but higher cost then
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 $227 each

For value
General G-max AS03 $158 each

When considering non runflats you also have a choice of non OEM tire sizes as long as the tire diameter is very close to OEM.

In your case, tire selection is good and 225/40 has a good sidewall for street use and comfort. If your roads are bad then stick to this size tire.

Thanks for the quick answer

Great suggestions there

Up here in the great white North, I run a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires. So this will be a summer / 3 season setup

I saw an ad for Brigestone Potenza 970. Are they any good? What do they compare to? Not too pricey too

As a compare, here in Canada:

Michelin Super Sport = 280$
Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 = 285$
Bridgestone 970 = 245$ (and Costco has a 17$ rebate per tire coming up in March, so it'll be 228$)

Re970's are a close second in handling to the Michelin Pilot sport AS 3. The road manners are very similar. Overall an excellent value, but not at the top of its category.

Ultra High Performance All Season tires are a "jack of all trades", they can be used in nearly all weather situations up to light snow. They don't need to be changed out exactly when the weather changes so that's convenient.

They usually give a bit of comfort, good treadwear, and good handling in dry or wet.

Summer tires will improve on handling but wear faster and can vary on comfort depending on tire size and other factors.

The Bridgestone RE970AS has been around longer than the Pilot Sport AS3, the RE970AS does offer better value. The Pilot Sport AS3 has better handling especially in the wet.

Both are good choices, unless you drive on both tires back to back, it's not that easy for the average owner to tell which tire you have.

From tirerack's test results for UHPAS tires-
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=177

On icy roads and snow the RE970AS lags behind the other tires tested.
The Continental ExtremeContact DWS was the best under those conditions.
