Drivetrain What happened to the Mini-Mania car
Mini Mania Car.
Isn't that the car that got forced off the track at east meets west, and came back tothe paddock with it's front wheels pointing outward?
Winched in to the trailer and left for home (California) imeadiatly for repairs?
Then again I may have the wrong car.

I heard it plasmified.
Into the ether.
But that's probably not true. (If I could put a smilie here, I would because I'm teasing.)
This is the best I can do.

This was at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix
This past weekend, (July 17, 18) in the Mini vs MINI race.. There were two MINI's neither finished the race, one caught a curb and I heard the other had some engine trouble..

What happened to the Mini Mania car
Mini Mania repaired collision damage in Chicago and went on to Pittsburgh where we ran several events. In the featured MINI/Mini race we lost a belt which caused the dnf. The belt was replaced and the car driven back to the campground where it was loaded for the long trek home. We have a solution to the belt issue in the works.
Glad to hear it wasn't anything major!
I've been on the pulley fence for quite some time, waiting for legitimate failures to identify and fix weak spots.. Before your incident, as long as you had the right size belt, 19% was no problem, guess I'lll wait to hear the full details of your failure and fix..
Car looked good by the way, any idea what the Mini you were dicing with was running?
Thanks,
Jim

I am curious too as there are many people running the 19% pulley with no problems with their belts.
It seems the problems are coming from vendors and the likes racing their cars on the track. My guess is that all of these people are running at an elevated redline @7500 rpm, which is 1,000 rpm above the supercharger limit with the 19% pulley. We may start seeing superchargers failing as well, but that is too be expected when everyone seems to be running over 10% above the redline of the SC.

In the EAST-meets WEST ?race, I heard, from a pro, the new MINIS all lost-broke their belts and DNF ... Is this true?
Is this with 15% pulleys? or 17-19 % pulleys ?

? What is the solution ? Is there a stronger belt available for the track ????

Hey red rage, come to Mid-Ohio April 1-3 with NASA/Ohio-Indiana. You can do all three, two, or only 1 day.

I just hope I have a race partner, haven't heard from him in a month !!!
Maybe I will meet you on Friday, when does it start on Friday ?

Have you seen this account of a MINI doing the OTC?

There will be three MINI's that I know of (includes me) doing all three days. Surely at least one or two more will show up that I'm unaware of.

Red Rage - you still have a partner! I haven't been abel to do anything - including sleep - for the last few weeks. I've just hired two more guys to help out, so things should start to settle down a bit now.
As far as the Mania West meets East, I was there racing in the Webb Motorsports "Mule", and I saw the issue in my mirror. I had already passed the "Super Cooper S", but shortly after the pass I made on Don, the Mania car was involved with an on-track accident with a classic Mini racer. I didn't see the car race again after the incident - it certainly didn't start the main event or the hardship run after that.
All of the cars at the event, including mine, were running 19% pulleys, and all lost there belts - some lost more than one! I now run a 15%, and have been able to make more peak power with that (Although there is more power in the lower RPMs with a 19%).
I have had a failure on every car I have installed the 19% pulley on that runs at the track - and I don't increase the redline on those cars. If you track your car, I HIGHLY recommend you stick with the 15%.
Hope that helps!
