Durham/Raleigh info needed

Possibly moving soon to the Durham/Raleigh area and need some area info.
Like where are some nice places to look for housing and schools. Can't wait to be part of the triangle MINI group. Any info appreciated.

If I had kids, I would be able to give you some better information. I live in Raleigh, but am childless probably because I'm single! I am buying a hosue though, but probably much smaller than you are looking for. There are some nice places probably around Lynn and Ray Road area. That's considered more of a high class part of town. There is always around downtown Raleigh as well. The area around five points and all is very nice, but it just depends on how much you want to pay for a house. Also depends on where you will be working too. =) Morrisville is very nice, but there really isn't a lot to do out there.

Not sure if this helps you any...if you need anything else, just lemme know.

Just thought I'd add a very cool restaurant to go try. I visited two years ago when I was working on a project for Keebler in Cary. Stopped in this place and stayed for a while and hung out with the staff at the bar by the time they closed. Great wines and food. It's called "Vin".

What sorts of things are you looking for? Do you want to be close to a "walkable" area of town or close to work (or both)? How big a house? Earthy-crunchy? Academic? Suburban?

There's some great info on the Triangle area online too: http://www.rtplinks.com/Community/Guides/ or http://www.epinions.com/trvl-Dest-Un...st/pp_~1/pa_~1

Hope that helps

What age group for schools? I grew up in Raleigh, lived there quite a bit till my senior year in high school. I lived on the south(ish) side of Raleigh on and around the Jones Franklin Road area. Close to the fairgrounds (makes getting to the State Fair a snap!).

Went to W.G. Enloe High School, thought it was one of the best schools in the area but most of the other schools are good as well. For the 6th-8th grades I was at Ligon Middle School. Great school, bad neighborhood.

At the time I was there, busing was not an issue. Buses ran all over the freaking place. I should have gone to Athens Drive High School, which was 2 miles from where I lived, but instead opted to go to Enloe which is across town.

The North Raleigh area continues to grow and expand, and you can expect to pay a pretty penny to live there.

Sorry to say I don't know much about the Durham area.
