R50/53 Trillian saved my life this weekend.
Trillian saved my life this weekend.
My Mini, Trillian, some black ice and some automotive pirouettes, decided that a new telephone pole was in order.
Crested a hill, lost control, spun around and took the pole broadside driver's side. Just behind where the door meets the front fender. Complete loss.
Broken rib, bumps, bruises, scrapes and knee is hurting pretty good. All in all I'm grateful to be alive.
MANY MANY thanks to all of the first responders, and my wife for helping me in a nasty situation. I owe a great deal to them.
Today I got to swing by and get pics of Trillian:

Actually you'd probably be surprised. I bet he wasn't going that fast. It's amazing how much damage hitting a pole/tree can do to a car. You're concentrating all of the force of the crash to a very small point and the car just folds around it.
Yeah, was not going fast at all to begin with, spinning likely decreased it as well. The, well, the abrupt halt at the end pretty much slowed me to a stop.

Trillian literally saved me life, I believe that. I'm re-evaluating things at this point. Not going all born-again, or caution be damned. But, a long hard look at where I'm at and how I got there.
Once my insurance company has completed their end, and they are VERY on the ball at this point, I will seek out another Gen 1 05/06. Then I have to come up with another name.
I am very sad to see Trillian go.
Thanks for reading, and for your support.

Wow. I remember when the specs of the first R50/53 MINIs were being released, I thought to myself: 'Six airbags? that's ridiculous overkill'. I think you're living proof that I was wrong.

Everybody be careful out there, please.

Yup, running Blizzaks if I remember correctly.
No sense in buying lottery tickets at this point. Just used up all of my luck, me thinks.
Looking at another Mini...05 R52 JCW or 12 R58?

Maybe all that snow on the inside of the car affected the dynamic stability control and didn't allow for.....
Kidding! So glad the car protected you! As tough as it is to see a MINI bite the dust, posts like these encourage me too, in a weird way.
