How much hotter does your pullied car run?

Hi everyone

i just got my pulley installed yesterday (alta 15%)

it rocks, but so far i've had some strange things appearing to my car... that has never risen before

1)i was jsut driving for 10 km to a store today... and when i stop, shut off the car and walked away, the intercooler fan turned on! granted i was at stop-and-go traffic most of the time... is this normal?

2)is there any way to check whether the install went perfectly? i looked at the pulley and the belt is aligned on both sides.... there's a minor scratch at one end that wasn't there the night before/.... will it affect it in anyway

3)i really dont wnt to take my chances, so should i keep an eye every time i stop the car on the pulley to make sure it is ok?

thanks!

I have never seen an intercooler fan on a MINI. Did you mean the radiator fan? Whatt was the air temp. etc? I have 19%, my wife drives like a bat out of Meatloaf, and daily temp are over 90F. I've never heard the fan.

When you turn your car off after you've driven it, the temp. rises a bit under the bonnet and I think thats what is triggering the fan. It should only stay on for a minute or so though. take care.

That's the radiator fan...not intercooler. There is no intercooler fan. I don't think you should worry.

My radiator fan comes on occasionally after shutting the engine off. If I am in a position to do so conveniently, I start it back up and let it run a couple of minutes just to dissipate some of the heat. This is probably totally unnecessary but I feel better.

My fan comes on after I turn the engine off, usually after an hour or so of stop and go traffic. Also if I turn on the AC.

My fan goes on often in this summer heat, usually in about a minute after I shut off the motor. Not much you can do about it I suppose and I dont care but one things for sure, the darn thing is loud!

re: #2: a scratch...where?

If the install didn't go right, you'd already know, and it'd be 100% noticable (in the form of a belt flying off and multiple lights in your dash going berzerk!)

Who installed your pulley?

Mantis Racing in Oakville Ontario, they told me it went perfectly and so far i've had zero problems with throttle, taking off.. if anything i cant wipe that smile off my face....

the scratch is near the edge... very small but noticeable right near the letter A on the Alta pulley.. doesnt seem that deep tho... possibly just a rock got it's way inside.. no idea how

i have a 19% and no heat issues yet. then again i live in the southernmost province of Canada (Maine) and we only get about three 90+ degree days a year

i don't shift at 6000+ very often either.

but i do love the way it pulls from 2k-5k even with the AC on. -nothing wipes the  off my face either!!

Mantis Racing

I was supposed to have my 19% installed at Mantis and they overbooked. I would just like to inform you that the information given to me was that they had problems with the slack of someones belt (possibly your car???). If this is the case and you have a 15%, i would suggest changing the belt altogether, though i believe they said it was a 19%. I had mine done by a great mechanic but cant mentin it on the forums or I will get in trouble, so post message me if you want info.

Also, I drove for 35 mins hammering the car to get to downtown TO, I parked the car and left. I had forgotten my wallet in the car and returned about 2 mins later and the fan was blowing like crazy! I have a 19% but I can assure you that with the heat we have been having lately, it is completely normal for ANY car to have its fans come on. Happy driving.

I run the 15% alta and here it has been over 96+ degrees for over a month with a heat index temp of 108+ degrees. My needle stays right at the middle line (NORMAL)

Got INTERCOOLER? I need a Big one

I believe the temp needle stays right at the middle unless the car is cold or overheating. Temp variances within the normal operating range don't register as a change in needle position. This is one of my biggest complaints about the Mini's engineering.

Like mentioned above, the MINI temp gauge is really a "dummy gauge". Once the car warms up, the needle will stay in the middle until it's overheating.

With a 15% Helix pulley on, my temp gauge stays just under halfway. I'd estimate you could fit another temp gauge needle between my needle and the halfway point on the gauge.

No clue what it was before.

The "dummy gage" is deciet name. he publice more or less demands a temp. gage, but when an accurate gage is installed dealers, not just MINI, are overrun by owners freaking out everytine the gage twitches. Sad but true. So it is easier in manyway just to use dead gages. Either way the manufacture loses. Just easier this way.

I plugged this into a translator, and it came out as "The gauge install by the manufacturer is only to satisfy the average consumers need to feel secure".

No, it says, "some car buyers are stupid, and because of this, the rest of us have to suffer."

The radiator fan running after you cut the engine off is a good thing. It should extend the life of the engine versus a vehicle that doesn't cool when powered off. After cutting off a hot engine the engine will get hotter for a short period of time as a result of no moving air. I don't have a Mini, but I have an 04 Yamaha FZ6 which will run the fan if I keep the bikes battery power turned on.

Doesn't do any good for the fan to run if the cooled coolant isn't circulated. That's why I let it idle a few minutes if it's hot enough for the fan to continue running after I shut it off.

Sure it does.

Guess I should say more....

Air cooled engines have used this concept for years.
