Rear Big Brake Kit

Hello,

I am having to replace my rear rotors and brake pads on my JCW mini. What I asking if there would be any issues with a kit like Wilwood for the rears? Would the fact that the front calipers are bigger then a cooper s with the larger rear calipers cause any problems with the master cylinder ? Would there be much of a performance gain ? and can you buy them with solid rotors to match the solid rotors on the front?

Calipers made for the front, do not have a e-brake/handbrake/parking brake mechanism....
And since the brake master cylinder volume is kinda the limiting factor....you will have pretty crappy performance... Simply not enough volume to run a bbk kit on the front and rear...
Guess you could go with a r56 master...
But the rear brakes do do little...why mess with it...you will also change the rear/front brake bias.....
I suggest you just paint the rear caliper, and Get new pads, and stock rotors, and forget get bigger rears...

The Wilwood rear combo caliper kit is 11.75 and a single piston set up. It's designed to pair with the front 12.2 or the TCE/Wilwood 13" kit.

There's very little chance you could even make the Wilwood front kits work on the rear without a ton of work. None of the ends are the same but for the hub diameter and stud circle.

If you need further help with the project by all means let me know.

Sorry i might not have been clear in my original post. I have the factory jcw r53 brakes on the front and i was looking at this for the rear to add some performance and looks. Here is the kit i was looking for and is made for the rearhttp://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/BrakeKitsProdRear.aspx?itemno=140-10885-DR&year=2004&make=Mini&model=Cooper&option=Coupe%2 c+including+Cooper+S

Go it.

Yes, that's the rear kit. While it's functional with the current R53 set up you have it's a bit more rear bias than might be ideal. And of course there's the look aspect of things.

If such a change is your idea but the idea of spending $800 on a rear kit is too much..I can offer you an alternative: for years TCE has produced a 11.75" rear kit that uses the stock rear caliper. For about $600. They are used on many members cars here over the past ten years.

If you can activate the ABS or lock the tires while stopping, you don't need more stopping power. Good rule of thumb for braking systems.

I would just refurb and paint the rear calipers, your braking force should be more than enough with your current setup.

2004mc40, if I remember right, the rear brakes account for about 20% of the total braking of the car. I don't think upgrading the rears will be beneficial unless you upgrade the fronts with a matched setup.

save your money and just go with some good rear pads and rotors. I'd use our WMW rotors and some good EBC redstuff pads.
