I like the color of my British Racing Green II R56 MCS but I don't love it. For one it's metallic (boring, plain). It's fairly dark and doesn't "pop". I like SOLID, deep, rich colors. Anyone here feel the same way? Of course it's just opinion, good luck settling on a "true" BRG. Is it Jaguar? Lotus? Aston Martin? MINI? MG? Impossible to tell. The Lotus Elise you see below is an "ideal" green I like. My MCS looks more like Forest Green than a Racing Green, my 2 cents

I wouldn't be opposed to painting my car in a non-metallic Irish or BRG from Sikkens.

 

I would say that if only my Mini looked like the Lotus I would be happy.

 

Black out that belt line and side scuttles. I think the green stands out more without the chrome around it. But I love the BRG so my opinion is biased.

 

But there is no "one true" BRG. Any green color was enough to show that the car was British--there were even some sea-foam green cars running! They were all "British Racing Green".

(N.B.-- Brits were green, Italians were red, Germans were white and eventually went to silver, French were blue, Americans were white with blue trim... There was an official standard matching countries to colors, but no standard for exactly which shade of the color was used at any given time.)

 

nah, I think the metallic, while not extremely traditional, adds a lot more depth to the paint on a MINI, since its got such curvy body lines to show it off. I think the only MINI colors that look better to me than a similar metallic are the new Volcanic Orange (which is really just Taxi Yellow), Jet Black (not a fan of metallic blacks), Pepper White (though a white pearl would be a nice option someday), and maybe some of the lighter shades of blue. The rest, I think, look better as metallics (I'd even take Blazing Red over Chili Red). As far as BRG II, since there really is no official shade of "British Racing Green", I think its an awesome color and its pretty much the first thing I get complimented on when someone sees my car. And I'm so glad they gave it a more yellow/gold tint and got rid of the muddy looking blue/purple tint of the first BRG color MINI offered. Oh and another cool thing about BRG II is that it always looks different depending on the light, though I'm not sure it could possibly look better than when in total direct sunlight, freshly washed.

 

I do love my BRG Clubman but I do have an issue with the colour. Actually the problem isn't with the colour itself but with the fact that they don't make accessories and accents that go with BRG. Everything is for red or yellow or white or blue. It would be great if I could get my hands on a shift boot with dark green stitching or dark green piping for the dash.

I would have to disagree, I think the MINI BRG II looks much better than the Lotus. I don't think I would call metallic boring and plain along side gloss. In my opinion gloss is more plain while metallic has the "pop" to it...

 

I can see where you're coming from. But It seems every new car today has metallic paint. It's fairly easy to make a metallic paint look good. When done well a non-metallic paint is extremely deep and rich. Just look at the 911 below and you'll see what I mean (see link).

MINI did release a non-metallic BRG, the JCW Championship 50. Not sure if it made here to the States.
