Howdy! WD1R here, just got my first Mini a couple months ago and am looking to see if other ops have radios in their Minis. I am thinking for now just building a custom holder that uses the center rail for a HT mount. I am curious however if others have installed radios/antennas in their Minis. Pics are very welcome!

PS. Hopefully when the lease expires on my wife's car we will have another Mini in the driveway with another ham (my wife is an Tech) driving!

 

Maybe "motor on", one of the sites admins/founders will chime in...
He had a pretty good rig in his r53 for many years...

 

West Coast MINIs here in California are all about that. I will see if I can get them to come on here and give you some tips.

N4DIY here in North Florida. I just recently got a mini and have been looking to try and decide whether to do a small dual band unit under the switch rack or do a hand held. One of those units witha detachable head unit looks like it may work great. Still working on it

I have a Yaesu FT-7900R in my truck and have been considering getting one for my MINI too. Mount the transceiver behind one of wheel well access panels in the boot, and mount the control head on my Craven Speed Flex Pod bracket. Remote mount speaker and microphone should make a tidy installation.

Glad to meet you both! I currently am using a Yaesu FT-270R which fits perfectly in the center rail under the arm rest with an external mic and MFJ-1738 glass mount antenna. Works fine for now but I am looking into doing something similar to you Chris.

I will post a few pics and hope to see yours when you get something in.

How did your install go? I just picked up a '06 convertible and have been looking at options to mount my Icom 2720H. The biggest problem I have be trying to figure out is where and how to mount an Antenna.

I just got a used vx-7r with an external mike for the moment. I'm going to play with it at MOTD. I saw a used ICOM IC-208H that looked like it would work but it's not as flexible to broadband.
