Shipping Wheel and Tire Package Advice?

I'm not terribly familiar with the shipping of a wheel and tire package. Having difficulty quoting potential buyers with an accurate estimate... An internet search on FedEx and UPS yields very pricey results. I visited a local FedEx store and the quoted me over $200. 160 lbs total, ~1,000 mi. Does this seem accurate? Suggestions? Any shipping carriers that I'm not aware of?

Ian

Try parcel post at the post office if you are not in a rush for shipping..but yup...heavy things are $$ to ship...
That's why finding a local buyer is better...
Heck I DROVE about 4 hours to pick up a set of rims...got to inspect them, and pick them up vs getting them shipped....

Try Greyhound bus, they might do it cheaper. I got a quote for $47.85. I put in a 25 lb package that was 21 inches long X 4 pieces shipping from Ariz. to Ohio. It said that price was a TOTAL cost.

TireRack usually ships them as two sets of two tied together. If you split them into to two shipments does that affect the price?

I shipped four wheels and tyres to the mid-West from Boston for $100 using the shipping department at work. We can ship our own stuff at cost. I did it Tirerack style, with a cardboard circle on each side and exposed tread. I taped them on, then the shipping guy added the plastic straps.

Like everything else they most likely get a decent deal due to the large amount of shipment quantities. Trust me, if you were shipping tires and wheels as much as they do you'd have all kinds of shipping companies knocking at your door for your business!
