Scangauge and JB+....what should I watch?

Finally sent my SGII to the company for the MINI specific tuning and put it in my N18 CM ALL4. It has a VIP Intake and a JB+ set to the 1 o'clock position. I use 93 octane only. 28k miles, no other power mods.

Currently I am watching boost, intake temp, water temp and timing.

Seems like max boost is 13.9.

Water temps max at about 215

Not much on intake temps yet, but I think within 20* of ambient. (Currently around 50* F ambient)

Timing is the one that is all over the place. Anywhere from 0 to 50-60 (I think...moves around a lot). Is it showing positive or negative timing? I am not seeing a minus symbol on the gauge...

Your input would be greatly appreciated...am I watching the four most helpful things? Am I in the ballpark? If not, what should I be looking for?

Thank you!

I like to keep an eye on the battery.

I watch water temp. and battery. By the time the idiot light goes on for the temp. it's too late.

You only need to watch the timing during hard full throttle acceleration runs. Ignore it off throttle or with light partial throttle.

Air fuel ratio is useful to watch, especially if tracking.

I find it useful to log the data then look at it later.

Thanks everyone! Why watch the battery? I don't see the correlation between that, boost, intake temps, etc. But, this is exactly why I am asking!

For timing, what should I be seeing (or not want to see) on those full boost runs?

As for data logging, I assume you are talking about using something other than the SG?

Thanks again!

Jac

For data logging I use DashCommand or ScanXL. Torque is also available.

For timing I look for steady or slightly increasing numbers during WOT. The actual number can vary but generally you're looking at single digit numbers.

For instance when I had the JB+ I normally saw about 4 degrees advance now with the Manic tune I see between 6 to 8 degrees advance on Map A.

Drops in timing during WOT especially 3 degree steps can be signs of timing being retarded which could be a sign of knock activity (but not necessarily).

One thing to note is that you are only monitoring cylinder number 1 and not the other cylinders.
