Dishonest Marketplace Sellers

The NAM Market Place provides a great service to members in selling and buying parts for our MINIs. Have had good experiences in buying parts from other members, until recently.

Some parts purchased arrived with damage, which obviously did not happen in shipping. The seller did not disclose the damage, and when contacted claimed there was no damage when shipped. An offer was made to return the parts, with shipping paid, for a refund, only to recieve a nasty reply from the seller.

Is there a system for mediation of disputes on items sold in the marketplace? Or, is it just buyer beware?

For the most part it's buyer beware. The marketplace is not like eBay with buyer protection or any type of mediation services, as far as I am aware. We do have a feedback system though, but in the last few transactions I've had the other party didn't even bother giving me feedback.

You can dispute the paypal payment if you paid goods/services if that's how you paid.

Never send pp funds as a gift. Leaves no recourse.
Ask for photos if none are provided.
Ask questions.
Politely leave the seller poor feedback in their 4-sale post outlining the issue(s) described.

I thought that they got rid of the feedback scoring system a while back.

There is a feedback score for each member. If you look in the right corner of any user post you will see the feedback. Click on that and it goes to itrader which allows you to leave feedback.

We always say to try and work it out with the seller first of course as that is what we would want someone to do if we were selling something.

Can also politely leave the seller poor feedback in their Marketplace 4-sale post outlining the issue(s). Leaves them room for rebuttal and hopefully resolution.

Thanks for the Feedback

Thanks to everyone for their input. Wish there were other options. Did leave a negative response for the seller.

The seller is an individual, who is a forum moderator on NAM. Mistakenly believed that the tie with NAM provided a higher probability of honesty.

Have dealt with other individuals on purchasing parts with great success. Some even outside the US.

Have purchased parts from a number of the vendors represented on NAM, always getting the products quickly with wonderful customer service.

Guess I was wrong to assume everyone in straight-forward and honest in their business dealing.

PayPal Agrees

Thanks to everyone for providing an education on dealing online through NAM and PayPal.

PayPal did agree that the parts were misrepresented in terms of not being damaged. The payment is being held until the parts are returned and will be deleted when UPS delivers. Only negative is that I have to pay the return shipping.

A lesson to be learned is not to pay through the Gift option on PayPal. Fortunately, I did not, opening the resolution option in PayPal.
