Lost my key!!!

I lost my key to my 2006 mini cooper s and don't have a spare, I contacted the dealership and they said I could order a new one if I bring in my License and title thats all fine and dandy, however I live 500 miles from the nearest dealership and there wanting me to tow it down there. Are there any other options, can I replace the Ignition or something any help would be great.

You can usually fax the documents, and they can ship the keys.
The "basic" non keyless entry key should work , no programming, but If you get remote keyless entry keys, then a bit of programming will be needed for that to work...but can be done on a later road trip.
There is a limited number of keys that the computer ews reader can remember...when full, the unit is replaced if new keys are needed....
Many dealers do not know crap about gen1 cars...they never sold them...you might want to call a dealer that is more established. Where are you? City and state or city and Providence?

Online mapping shows Schomp MINI at 372 miles. They're in Littleton. Schomp is extremely helpful to the MINI community. You might contact the good folks at the 5280 club for additional support.

I have done a key replacement for my 2006 MINI from a remote dealer across the country. Fax or e-mail of drivers license and registration is required, and ship only to the address on the registration (through FedEx with signature required). Check around with different dealers, both MINI and BMW (the one I used was actually a BMW dealer).
