Valve job @ 48k keep or trade

09 MCS had walnut cleaning @ 43k & needed valve job @ 47k
With valves & seals a new timing chain & all associated parts are being changed.
Original price was 3,800$ for valve job either cyl 1 or 3 had bad valves find out tomorrow.
Timing chain was added since engine was apart total 4,350$
Oil changed at 5000 miles with filter.
Under 50,00 miles under five years, seems this is the price of a high sprung engine. N-14

Question being to keep this with what ever else can go wrong or trade it?
Off warranty last year was an off year & just did not put enough thought to extended warranty.

I'd say it depends. $4350 is a pretty good chunk of cash to walk away from. I would want to get some use out of the investment, which for trade in value only brought you back to level.

Sorta what I was thinking, brother says trade it?
Have been otherwise working on Land Rovers to really pay attention to Mini issues & honestly the car ran fine until it didn't!!!
If it did run a while I could do some fun aftermarket parts assuming it keeps going. always the question.
Trading is just another big ticket investment & taxes.

I remember receiving a ton of mail from Mini when mine was about to go out of warranty to purchase an extended 100,000 mile warranty. Might want to ask them about it. If they still offer it and the price isn't crazy expensive it might be worth it.

I had the remainder of the 100K Extended Warranty when I acquired my 08 used. If I'd had to buy the warranty, it would have paid for itself. Just my opinion, if it were me, I'd enhance the repair investment with the warranty and have as much fun with it as possible until its worth nothing. When my 97K mile motor expires, I'll put another one in it and keep having fun. I'd rather pay the note on a $7k repair than a $40K new car! But that's just me.

I will check not sure if you can extend warranty once warranty expires, my mistake.

Carbon

Mini called Monday saying they were considering a credit for the work done, today they called to say they would pay for it when it happened again. Is this a responsible company, pay next time for a design flaw?

I am now a Seafoam convert out of no other choice due to the car I own.
And using the engine as it should be not as the manual states.
See if it gets to 100,000. Without another valve job.
