They finally changed my oil interval to 6000 miles!!
For last 3 years my dealer had my OBC oil change interval at 14k miles. So, I have been performing my own at 7000 and then get the freebie. Went in for the freebie today and noticed they reset the OBC to 6000 instead of 14k. I am not complaining but, what gives? I have been requesting that since 2 yrs ago.

Just talked to my Mini Cooper service manager yesterday about this and he told me between 15,000 and 18,000 miles between oil changes.
At 6,000 miles on our 2013 MINI Cooper using this service managers mileage requirements they will never have to change our oil under the 36 month service agreement that came with the MINI.
I'm certainly glad we didn't buy the extended service agreement.

I am an advocate of extended oil change interval, but I think 18000 miles is a bit too long. There is also a time interval involved with oil changes due to condensation and contamination issues. Usually its a certain mile or time, which every comes first. With BMW. its 12000 miles or 1 year.

In January at my one year mark I had 4200 miles. They did my service without question. My SA thought my mileage was a mistake! Currently I sit at just under 6500, so I'm on the same plan next January.
The service manager told me to bring the car in in January of 2014 and they would do the two year maintenance items but oil change was not one of those items he listed.
That's when I asked him how many mile between oil changes and he said between 15,000 and 18,000 miles.
I told him they could do whatever they wanted but I would be changing oil and filter every 5,000 mile.

The dealer should (and mine does) reset the oil change indicator when doing an annual change. It is when the customer requests an intermediate change at their expense that the mileage is not reset.
also, free oil change IS in the warranty when obc indicates. my oil change was done under extended maintenance warranty (6yrs/100k) for free. my current mileage on my 2011s is 75000.
never heard of 2yr warranty or no oil change is not covered crap!!!

Original counter on Lucy was 8k when I got her. My old Blue (Clubman) was 14k. I paid for 4k change they didn't reset anything and they changed 8k this pattern has held. I am just over 20k so will be running her in and paying for one. I have rotated tires every time she has been in. Blue needed tires every 20K., I spun fronts allot especially when roads were wet. With all4 system on Lucy, the P-Zeros look almost new after 20K.
FYI, you can get the free oil change when it is showing as "recommended" which for me is when I have about 2000 miles left (which is when it will show as "required"). My dealer resets it for 9,000 each time which means I have been getting free oil changes every 7,000.
