want to switch from 15" to 17" rims on a 08 Mini base

Can i upgrade rims from a 15" to 17" with out any problems?

I found a nice set of 17 ruff rims and tires at a good price

As long as they're the same bolt pattern and same or similar offset then it should be fine.

Sure you can switch, but you are likely to lose performance with a heavy wheel package.

You will notice a definite difference in slower acceleration and longer shift points making that switch. Some of that change can be lessened by very careful tire choice to keep the overall diameter as close to the same as the 15" wheels. There are some other reasons besides looks to go with a 17", you can install larger brakes is one important one. 15" wheels can be very light which makes the suspension respond quicker, so check out the relative weights between what you have and the 17" before you buy.
