R56 New 2010 Owner
New 2010 Owner
Hi,
So the GF bought a 2010 Hatch base

From what I am reading, mini's aren't the best reliability wise?
I think its a really cool car - what it sounds like it might be my project to keep her on the road running smoothly etc.
I just want to know what issues I should look out for etc - I am just starting the search on the forum.
I come from a Z family

thanks!

The N12 engine in the R56 Coopers is actually the most reliable of the Gen 2 engines in my opinion. They don't have the carbon build up issues the N14 does, oil consumption isn't as big a concern, (as long as you keep up on 5K mile oil changes running a MINI OE filter).
Overall she should be in for a fairly easy ride. Biggest things are the thermostat (if it hasn't already been done), water pump, keep up on oil levels and changes, but lastly, we've been seeing a lot of Coopers needing plugs far sooner than they are dealer recommended, so if it's closing in on 50K miles it would be a good idea to change the plugs as well, otherwise you will be in for burned out coil packs.
Good luck,
Nick

Change the oil at 5-6k with synthetic, check the oil level regularly, and change the transmission oil every 40k, and air filter/cabin filter every 12 months.
They're pretty reliable. My girlfriend has a 2010 as well.

So we did buy the car and she loves it. With all the help from here and other forums, got an inspection.
46500kms are on the 2010 Car
Replacement items found by inspection:
Waterpump failing - replacement under warranty
Theromstat leaking - replacement under warranty
vacuum hose leak - replacement under warranty
drive belt cracking - replacement under warranty
Warranty is up in 2 months - so good this all was covered (2K total bill otherwise)!
