Countryman R60 Aftermarket Stereo

Hey guys I just wanted to let anyone who wants to upgrade the stereo in the R60 Countryman know that it is possible because I have done it. I'm willing to answer questions to other NAM members if you like what I've done. Thanks

More Info. please. I would love you have the aftermarket stereo.

What Kit you use?
How well is the fitment?
Does it support Double Din type stereo?
I have HK system, how the aftermarket support?

Thx

I have read elsewhere on the forum that the factory HU must be present for the dealer to be able to do any system updates, etc. Something about an optical cable or connection IIRC.

Had you heard of this ?

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply, I replaced the basic stereo that comes with MINI's without the navigation system, what I would like to let you know by this is that I can asure you will have no problems with upgrades from dealership because the stereo in only that, the stereo. The only thing you will lose is the seat belt dong sound and the low fuel chime. But you will still have the visual seat belt signs and the fuel gauge to tell you what you should know. Since I didn't mind those sounds, I immediately took my dash apart. After having everything out I noticed that the only way I could do this was to cut out the part of the dash in which the radio goes in (I'll post pictures) the rest is just a matter of assembling everything together on a table in order to take measurement on how much you will need to cut in order to fit you single din radio. You will be able to use the MINI Cooper Harness for the cables as these don't change and a antenna adapter. To cover up the speedometer hole left by the radio I used vinyl sticker and a Countryman Hood Emblem. I also bought a 12x12 acrylic thin sheet in order to cut it round and glue it to the Mickey Mouse shaped speedometer cover in order to cover it up. Once again I only recommend this time consuming project to those of us which only had the cheap radio. I will try to answer any other questions as well as I can. Thanks

Very clean job. I like the mini logo hiding the old radio. Looks much better than some of the other custom installs I've seen.

Do you know of any resources on disassembling the dash? I'd like to install a parrot kit, but would really appreciate some instructions on getting access to the back of the radio so I can connect everything.

Thanks in advance.

Bump.

I'm working on a similar project right now... Since I'm having some trouble getting the dash apart, I'll work on it... I sent JMC a pm, hopefully he responds.

Has anyone had any luck getting the dash apart?

I'll try and post pictures when I get it apart and write up a guide.

I have installed aftermarket single din flip AVH7700 with GPS unit AVIC260 and then added backup camera in my 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman. I also installed backup camera. I had no experience prior to install. THIS WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT BUT ULTIMATELY WELL WORTH IT!!!

Cartoys claimed that they would be able to do a double din install based on kits circulating for R57 mini coopers. That will not work. For R60 countryman with HK audio, here's my brief how to:

1. Purchase parts: BMRC harness adapter with tones, bmw antenna adapter, HK amp adapter (only made in UK), radio (chose avh 7700 +avic 260 GPS), Torx screwdriver set, wire stripper, butt connector vs soldering set for wires, handsaw. YOU DO NOT NEED ANYTHING FROM THE MINI COOPER R56 AFTERMARKET KIT SOLD ONLINE AS THIS will not work.

2. Remove OEM dash unit. This is very difficult and there is no walkthrough on youtube or online that is that helpful. Google Part Number: 51459801462. Part Number: 51459803905. You will need Torx screwdriver and the angles are very difficult for some of these screws.

3. Add a circuit to install additional 12V power sources by snaking yellow wire around hood and under dash to radio section.

4. Remove old radio.

5. Review harness adapter supplied with HK (harmon Kardon amp) and BMRC bmw adapter to ensure wiring pins link up. There is some mismatching that needs to be adjusted with pins.

6. Install HK adapter. Needs a constant power supply (red spliced off power to head unit), white to sound system linked to harness adapter, and ground

7. Use butt connector or soldering iron to match radio wires to harness adapter

8. Use handsaw to cut opening of former radio to larger size for AVH7700 standard single din head unit. This is a very delicate process and you're at risk of damaging whole head unit.

9. Reset head unit and a place screws. Should have working fuel gauge, odometer, audio tones, and sound.

10. USE 12V power source from hood snaked to center dash to add backup camera. Wires backup camera under passenger seat and through side pan of left back... Moderately difficult.

Add a wire 12 V wire addition.

12V add a circuit in fuse box

Snaked yellow constant power from fuse box as it is nearly impossible to get wire from hood through center console another way. You can ground radio handbrake switch to chassis of radio to play video while car is in motion.

You will need toggle switch to flip back up camera on and off as the power delivered to tail lights is not a full 12V to power the camera.

Can you tell me how you were able to dismantle the front. I have mines apart to replace the front middle vents but need to remove the front controls to access the torque screws and it's kicking my butt. Your help would be so greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Well after trying to different plug and play units I might go to this custom mod. I wonder can you still change the car's date/time (error CC-ID 167) since it can only be set using the original radio? Did you have to cut the dash trim?
