R50/53 Co-workers reactions
At work today I had to tell my co-workers about my new Mini purchase. I was going to keep it a surprise and just drive it to work when I got it....but I couldn't help myself.
I found a great pic of a CR/B MCS (which is my configuration) in this forum and used it as wallpaper on my puter to show my co-workers what the car looks like.
The comments/reactions were:
What is that?
Who makes that?
How much did it cost?
NO WAY! It's ugly!
Don't drive up next to me and expect me to wave at you!
A Mini What?
Hey........the last laugh will eventually be on them.

Just wait until you start bringing in 1:18th models and posters and stuff. My coworkers think I'm nutz, but like the car. They were all goo-goo over it. It doesn't photograph as well as the eye can perceive it in person...so let them actually see it before making judgements. But I'd be willing to bet the person that said it was ugly was a young male with a crappy car. No?

Don't worry about the comments. I had the same thing from my wife. It's ugly, it's small, is it safe? By the time we left the dealership for the first time it turned to. I want the PW/B, can I drive it to work to show my co-workers?
Davbret is right, it doesn't photograph well.

Like I tell everyone..."It's a Brittish thing, You wouldn't understand". That usually shutts them up because they're driving a Ford or Chevy POS. Tell them to take a Dealer test car for a drive, they'll change their tune. I got a lot of punnishment from my workcenter for the 3 months I had it on order, but the day I brought it in they all loved it and even said it was one of the coolest cars they had seen in a long time. Brittish cars are just different...check this out, I took this picture at a car show in Germany...Cool Car!

I have had a POSITIVE experience here at work ....
I will be passing out a list it seems - everyone wants a ride when it comes in. I have cut the MINI brochure up and have the many flavors displayed on the wall in my office. My colleagues ask me about the car weekly, if not daily. In fact, one of my colleagues is buying my old car as a second car and up front he said "I'm willing to wait until your MINI arrives". How cool is that?
Cheers,

Most of my co-workers. and myself drive Hundai Excels, Sonatas, GLSs, Daewoos 1994 or older. (that is what most of us drive here in Korea
, being on a miltary base and all). 3 of my higher ups drive BMWs. They think the car is cool....
I can't wait to turn in my beat up 1992 Hundai Excel with 150,000 KM on it to the insurance company for "junk credit" ie: take off the junk value of the Hundai from the value of the Mini. This will drop the price I pay for full coverage insurance on the Mini in addition to the 10% discount I will also receive for not having an accident in the 2nd most likely place in the world to have an auto accident. (Koreans cannot drive!)

One of my coworkers is originally from Australia, who used to own an original Mini  He loves the car!

I actually try to cover up the part of the screen with those murderer's pics!
Uh, maybe it's not the appropriate place or time, but, Um, what did I miss here!?
Barb, the confused one now!
