R56 Cannot open bonnet
Cannot open bonnet
Hello,
I am really frustrated here.. trying to open the hood (bonnet), without any luck.
I pull the lever inside the car, the hood goes up, good.
Then I find the lever under the hood and push it up all the way. it's all the way up for sure, I can feel that it's already stuck to the top, but nothing happens. It simply does not open.
I tried to push it to some other directions, move it around a bit, nothing there else you can do except pushing it up.
I checked youtube clips where its done by simply pushing it up and that's it.
How hard can it be to open the hood in this car?? Anything else I can try?
The car is pretty new, it's the 2011 model.
Thanks

Hopefully by now you've figured it out. If you haven't, tried pushing the lever/paddle up and wiggle the hood left to right while pulling upwards. May be a tolerance thing. If you don't feel you've pushed the paddle all the way to the top, you may want to use a tool (e.g. screwdriver wrapped in a cloth) to be sure you've pushed it all the way up.
Once the cable release has been activated, it's only a mechanical level system which holds the catch in place. Not a whole lot of rocket-science here. So, if it doesn't work, may be a tolerance issue or bent component.

If you still have any warranty left, tell the dealer that the latch or the bonnet is out of adjustment. If you don't, then you'll have to fiddle with things until it works correctly. Or until you can't get under the bonnet at all... (Oops!)
Possible the latch is out of adjustment. Or a stuck component in that front latch system, they can get the abuse from road salt and rust.
