R56 Fuild Flush, how to?
Fuild Flush, how to?
Hey guys,
Looking for some help here. I'm getting close to 90k and I'd like to do a fluid flush. (Manufacturer recommends at 90k to do this). I haven't been able to find much in the way of flushing the fluids so I'm wonder if anyone has seen a how to on the following flushes. I'm also wondering how difficult it is to do these and whether any special equipment is needed.
1. Transmission
2. Brake Fluid (I'm thinking of adding braided brake lines at the same time)
3. Power Steering
I'm replacing all of the fluids with the Redline brand
(Coolant was just recently replaced when I replaced the Thermostat)
Also I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on cooling the air intake. I have the DDM Works intake but the intake temp is around 98 highway and 114 City.... wondering if there is anything I can do to cool that off a little. My engine likes to run a little hotter (between 221.8 and 224.6 and would love to bring it down if I can)
As always thanks!

The power steering is electric, no fluid to change.
The thermostat is electronically controlled, I believe that it runs cooler in sport mode, but there is no other way to reduce the water temp.
Brake flush can be done several different ways:
1. Two person method (one pumps the brakes and holds while the other cracks the bleeder)
2. Pressure bleeder (people sell pressure tanks with adapters to go onto the master cylinder, then you just crack the bleeder)
3. Special bleeders (Russell makes bleeders for some cars with a check valve, so that you can bleed the brakes by yourself. I'm not sure if they make them in MINI size, or if someone else does).
Change the brake lines before bleeding, should be no big deal.
There are how-to's for both auto and manual transmissions in the modification:how to section.
Have fun,
Mike

I talked to a mini dealership and 220-230 is right where the coolant should be, and as far as the intake temp, I also get 10-20 degrees higher using the alta open filter. There is not much you can do other than ceramic coating the DP, exhaust manifold, and get a larger FMIC. There is very little we can do about the IAT due to the small engine bay, turbo at the front, and the intake right over the DP all causing a lot of parasitic heat.
I get 130+ intake temps in this 80-95 degree heat. 114 and 98 sounds great!
225F is normal temps (for fuel efficiency).
185 is the temp it targets under heavy load and full cold ac (on max fan and max cold). 2013s will also drop the temp in sport mode and GPs run at 185 all the time I believe.
Manual tranny fluid is a 20 min job. Auto or manual?

Its not a nightmare, just work. I chose to get a pressure fill tank and filled the fluid through the drain plug. Others have successfully filled through a small hole in the top of the trans (several hours for 3-4 quarts). If the fluid has never been serviced, I would recommend dropping the pan, but that is no fun either. One bolt is directly over the subrframe and not easy to get at. I had quite a bit of crap in the bottom of my pan, but if you don't drop the pan it should easily be done in 1/2 day. There are several threads on how to do this, most have pictures.
