Carbon Build Up

I have noticed other forum members mention something on other threads about carbon buildup problems with turbocharged engines.

We own a 2013 countryman S All 4. Would the engine in our car be susceptible to this? What are the symptoms?

I have been pretty active on the countryman section of the forum since before the first countryman arrived, and I don't recall many, if any, countryman owners mentioning carbon buildup problems with their countryman.

Is the carbon buildup problem mostly with model years prior to when Mini started producing the countryman?

Thanks.

I am guessing some symptoms are CEL, rough morning starts or lost of performance.

This is what I know... the 2007 - 2010 Mini Cooper "S" models have the carbon problem.

Anyone here with a 2011+ Mini that had carbon problem?

Good news, I think. I did some searching on the second generation section of the forum, and it sounds as if the problem was resolved in the N18 engine (used in all model years of the Countryman S) versus the earlier turbocharged engine:

It appears the current turbo engine (N18) does not have the carbon deposit issue that the earlier turbo engine had (before the Countryman model was introduced). The problem does not seem to be showing up in any of the Mini models the N18 engine has been installed in. Fingers crossed :-)
