Drivetrain P3 cars engine diagnostic guage
P3 cars engine diagnostic guage
Quick review on the P3cars guage
Ease of install (1-10) - 2
Very simple to install, but like everything on a mini, space is tight. The instructions are spot on and can be found in video form on their website.
TECHNIQUES:
1 When running the flat black cord coming directly from the gauge and ending with a telephone plug, I simply ran the cord on the outside the dash (between the dash and the trim) through a hole in the dash that sits behind the trim piece with a visible "H" etched in the plastic. This hole was just big enough for the phone plug to snugly fit through and alleviated the need to move the steering wheel seal and search for the cord. I will note that I have a 2010 JCW and it seemed this hole was not present in their video instructions.
2 take your time finding a place to snake the OBD II connector down to the bottom, I went relatively deep in the dash, dropped it, then while laying on the floorboard, snaked it past the clutch and snugly into the the port
Quality - 7
This product was well built and looks stock built (defiantly not a ricer feel), but lacks some functionality. It monitors the following data (via the ECU)
Current codes (if any are present)
Boost
Coolant Temp
Oil Temp
Batt volt
IAT
Speed
RPM + shift
0-60 times
EGT
Another pro, is you can add up to 2 manual readings at anytime allowing future expansion if wanted.
A huge con is that you can only cycle forward, not backwards, and it does not have an auto cycle mode.
Price - 3
This gauge comes at a premium. It essentially is the same as a BT OBDII reader and the Torque app (which has more functionality), but costs around 2-3 times more! However, the stock look and feel make it a premium choice for those that may want a lot of info, but do not want to install manual gauges, such as factory JCW or Alta ones. When compared to the aforementioned manual gauges, P3cars provide a high quality alternative for the same price.
If you are interested, I picked mine up off eBay for $365 (I made an offer of $350) shipped to the lower 48, vs $399+ shipping on P3cars website. Service was fast and I received the gauge within 4 days. If you would like more info or pictures, just comment.

Refresh rate is i nstantaneous, there is no lag whatsoever. I should have mentioned that with BT and wifi OBDII dongles (as mentioned with the torque app) lag can be an issue.
Good to hear. Might actually look into one now. Any chance of a video showing the different parameters? I know it can be dangerous to film and drive, so if you can't it's cool.
well twist my arm to go drive her around! Ill get some high quality iPhone videos now, lol
So here it is, the rattleing is my cell phone mount, sorry about that. Also, I was not getting on her because of my inlet tube being broken (forge replacements on the way).
