Wind Noise

Does any other R59 owner experience excessive wind noise while going 50+mph? It seems worst when the weather is hot (during summer time).
Although I love the top down time, the wind noise can get drive me nuts (sometimes).
Still love the car

I hate to say but if it drives you crazy put the windows up. It will cut down quite of the noise itself (not necessarily the wind )

If that's what you already do then I'm not sure there's much you can do. That's what it is to drive a small roadster with a small windshield. Some other convertible have it less because the windshield is wider. But the MINI being what it is it is evidently hard to cut the wind down at high speed.
You can always try earplugs

I'm not sure if it's any worse in the summer other than the fact I might be tempted to drive faster than when the temperature are much cooler.

There's also some conversation going on on an other thread to come-up with better wind blocker behind the head rests. You might want to check it out...

thank you TG.
I really do not mind when it is top down or window down. I just want to make sure the wind noise is normal with R59 - I knew what I getting into before I ge the car
just want to find out two things: there is nothing wrong with my car (roof fitting), second - if there is anything I can do to reduce the wind noise (without slowing down).

TG. is right, dosomething, having the windows rolled up when at high speeds does helps with the wind noise. It also helps when it's excessively windy at normal city driving speeds.

I only do windows down at local driving speeds in decent temperatures. On the highway its windows up, and if its cold (less than about 55) or hot (more than about 80) then with the windows up at low speed too, the heat or A/C can make a fair difference.

(I have a Countryman loaner at the moment, and I find the open sunroof noise more annoying than anything my Roadster can throw at me!)

I wasn't complaining, just making sure I am not the only one getting the wind noise coming from the top of windshield (when the top is up).

Really, then it is my problem then. I might need to check with the MINI dealer. I got wind noise starting around 50mph on the hot day, it almost sounds like the seal between the roof and windshield has a small gap.

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask... : You do lock the top tight using the handle in the middle of the windshield top rail when the top is up, don't you?

Very funny, I did lock and double checked. The wind noise happen only the weather get hot, everything seem normal when I drive the car to work in the morning. I should pick a hot sunny day and ask the dealer to look into it.

Oh, I miss understood your question. You're not asking about overall noise but a specific noise coming from a specific area it seems... It would be nice if you could describe it better. Does it whistle for example...

I'd have to pay attention to tell you wether or not there's an unusual noise other than the overall wind noise going around the car... I'm not the daily driver, just the weekend driver, so it's hard for me to know just like that...

No noise here, hot or cold. I'm amazed at how quiet the interior of the Roadster is.

Checked in with MINI Monrovia today and after the test drive, they scheduling me in for next week to readjust the latch of the roof to resolve the wind noise issue. Hopefully that will solve the issue.

I don't know why I feel so confused with this thread . . . is the noise issue when it's top down or top up? . . . because if it's when it is top down, I'm having a hard time understanding why adjusting the latch would have anything to do with it? On the wind shield section those are passive parts I think, and the latch itself is hidden behind the roof when in top down position...

Seriously...I really don't think about the wind noise...it's my third straight convertible...most of the time there isn't any wind noise because I'm going 10 MPH in NYC traffic.

The wind noise is happening when the ROOF IS UP with ALL WINDOWS UP traveling above 50mph, it sounds like the roof is not completely close (and here is the strange part - it only happen when the car park outside under the hot weather for few hours). Noise is a little bit louder on the driver side than the other side. It is not whistling but loud enough to be heard even with radio is on.
The car is totally fine without any issue in the morning and the weather is cool.

Its sounds like an fine adjustment, on the R52 Convertible and R57 where the seam from the font of the convertible top to the front bow or support seal above the windshield. These can be a location of wind noise or hearing the outside due to a non complete seal of the fabric to the seals its self.

Thank you very much for your infor. MINI tech Travis was saying about the same thing yesterday when I test drove with him. Hopefully they will able to solve the issue when I drop off my car next week. but for now, I just drive it with top down 100%

Welcome. Glad I could help.

Top down motoring is the way to go. Up in snow storms and down pours of rain.

After keeping my car for a week (drop off early Monday morning and pick up late saturday night). MINI Moronvia acknowledged the wind noise problem but did not fix the issue, moreover make the noise worsen after replace the top seal. Now I can hear the wind noise at any speed above 45mph.
To make it worst the front spoiler was damage while they have my car, NO ONE ever told me and I need to find out when I pick up my car. What a experience with them, and it is not a pleasant one. I did not get update while I am waiting for a whole week, even I called and left message to my service adviser - never get a called back and I have to hold for 5-10min each time before anyone in service pick up my call each time. It was a worst customer service experience I ever had with any dealer.
Since I pick up my car after the service hours, I did not get any answer from service department, however the sales manager promised that he will get this taken care by Monday. I hope they will this straight out by next week.
