I was lying back in my MINI in a bank parking lot actually taking a nap (I was waiting for my wife who was going to be in there for a while) when someone came up to my car, saw me sleeping and proceeded to ask me about the car. My windows were shut but the sunroof was wide open. So I heard him talking loud and clear. I raised my seat back, opened the window and answered a few questions, then I laid down again. He was at the drive-up with his wife and came out to get a closer look at the car. He never saw one but he thought it was "the coolest car he's ever seen". He asked what it was. A "MINI Cooper" didn't help much so I also said it was an english car company that was purchased by BMW. He also asked about how much they were at the end and I told him in the mid 20's.

I've found that almost everyone that asks me about my MINI asks the price range. But they usually do it very respectfully and I have no problem with that. Price is a big deal with cars - everyone knows their price range. I know when my brother or uncle (big car buffs) tell me about a new car one of the first things I ASK is "how much?". Then I know how much attention I should give to what they're telling me b/c I'll know if I can buy this car or not.

I've only had a few people ask me the price, but next time a stranger asks me, i'm thinkin of telling 40k... it's different when it's between people that you know... but if you want more info about the car, do some homework... I have no problem being friendly (about 2 weeks ago I stopped of at a resturant on my way home from school because the owner (family owned truck-stop type place) wanted a closer look... And I told him how much it cost, no problem... but it's the "Hey, what kind of car is that?" and with the follow-up "How much?", it's rather irritating... it's along the lines of discussing how much you make at work, in my book...

I like the line that someone posted here awhile back on the topic of when strangers ask for the price of the car, that went, "Tell me how much you make at work and how much you have in your bank account, and I'll let you know if you can afford it." I plan to use that one the next time someone bothers me with asking "How much?" It happens all the time. I've been polite up until now. It's always the first or second question after they google at it. I'm getting annoyed. Some people's kids, I tell ya. No manners. No respect.

I had a Jeep Cherokee stop in front of me at a 4-way stop. Two younger guys jumped out and ran to my window. One was the driver. They started questioning me about my MCS's HP, speed and "PRICE". I said in a very respectful way, "this was not the place to talk, and you are blocking traffic". I had a number of cars behind me waiting to cross the intersection. They seemed very annoyed I didn't want to talk at the time.

I dunno know why some of you get irritated when asked the price of your cars (MINI or otherwise). It's a fairly standard thing other drivers want to know.

In Canada a MINI can work it's way up to $40,000 (Cdn.) so a standard answer would be $30,000 to $40,000. I've had the same question about my Celica GTS for three years now. The Celica actually comes in two flavours in Canada - $25,000 or $35,000.

Simple, to the point and, frankly, car prices are no secret anyway. Besides, nobody will know if you bought it, financed it or lease your car.

Well done. It's one thing to ask in a parking lot but to ask you to block traffic and possibly make an unsafe situation. Their problem, not yours.

If someone asks you how much it costs and you don't feel comfortable for WHATEVER reason just refer them to a dealer.

"A true cynic is a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing."

Very true of the Mini.

I'm not so sure about that, L.MINI. From what I heard about you running red lights, I think you might never have stopped at that stop sign!

I think I would have thrown it in gear, and gassed it around them. In this day, with peopel getting car-jacked, I would have got out of there! If someone comes running up to my car, I'm gone!

When asked about the price anymore I usually lead off with:

"It's a lot more affordable than you might think."

Depending on how the conversation goes from there, I may or may not give them more detail - I have generally found that they don't ask about the price again, but you can continue to have a friendly conversation about you beloved MINI!
