Still Drooling.

Hey guy's, ben a while. At first I was really heavily interested in buying a Mini-Cooper S earlier this year. Then realized how rare and special my 2000 Honda Insight is, and decided to keep it. But recently, I find myself drooling on these neat little boxy Mini's and seems like there is a beautiful black Mini-Cooper S that shows up at work at 6am on the weekends taunting me.
I see ton's of Mini's at King Soopers and every chance I get I talk to the owners and all seem very happy with there car.
So, once again I'm considering this as a goal for myself to save up to $10,000, sell my current car for $6,000 and get me a good used 2008-up all black Mini-Cooper S. Right now, I've got about 6g's saved, and hope by Xmas I'll have 10g's.
Question is, is black a common car to find?

You shouldn't have a problem.

What I can tell you from person experience, if you've never owned a black car before, you might acquire OCD in due time. Black is high maintenance, so get prepared.

I'm usually meticulous with my silver car, I don't think black will be a problem. It may be dirty during the winter time, but I do know when clean, black is beautiful.

This after owning past cars.. Black and white.. I swore I'd never own those colors again.

Silver is hands down the easiest color to live with.

Yes, silver is easy but boring. Not a lot you can do with it. My 88CRXsi was silver and I couldn't wait to change it to white. Loved white cars for a while, but now I want black.
Mini's look best in black.

Good luck with the search.

You won't be disappointed with the Mini's level of fun.

The reality is that black is never clean for more than 5 minutes.

If that, especially in the spring!! Gotta hate that pine pollen!!
You will find MANY ex CRX guys here....had a '89....
Just research the model you plan on buying....
An engine change happened on the s (changed from the odb2 tunable n14 ((had carbon iisues))to the more efficient n18 that removed tuning buy odb2, but lessened carbon issues, got better tq and mpg due to having BMW's version of VVT on both the intake and exhaust...both may have timing chain issues)..
Both engines have their own lovers/haters and issues....so read up so you can make an informed choice....
Buying a mini is NOT like buying a Honda.... You can get burnt pretty bad...these cars do need regular MX....ignore them for a bit...and your wallet will get bit!!

You said it, ZippyNH. I keep forgetting to take a vacation during Pine Pollen Week and garage BUSTER.

MarcMini,

Save your money. I owned a 2008 MINI Cooper S, with auto transmission and after the warranty expired I had nothing but high repair costs. I'm not joking...just research: carbon build up, timing belt, run-flat tires, and check engine lights. I hope you've got the ability to do your own repairs or otherwise you will need a thick wallet. Also, if you buy one, stop on the way home and get a case of synthetic 5W -30 oil, you will need it. Good luck to you!

I had my Black R60 when we moved back to new hampshire last year for a short period of time. Now I am extremely picky about my cars and to the point that I spend awful amounts of money on ADAMS Polishes products. When I moved up there from Florida my black paint was perfect and after driving I-93 and 495 for work everyday by fall the front end looked like a salt and pepper shaker. then came the 4 snow storms before we moved out and lets just say the road debris and salt are not friends to black. To say it nicely, I now have a Spice Orange R56 because i couldn't take the paint damage to my countryman and didnt feel like having it painted.

Black looks great but if you live up north where you have season change, IMO you might want to stay away from black.

I had nearly the same issue after this last winter, Mini-b10. No, black might not be the best choice for any location that has a winter season. It's fine if the car spends that time protected in a garage from the winter elements. Buster will be getting a full hood and lower bumper Xpel Clear Bra soon. Hopefully this will help resolve some of this issue.

While Chili Red is a favorite of mine, there's a down side to red in general as well, nine5raptor. If not kept protected, red fades.
