Color me dubious.

Far as I can tell most chips are returning less than 8hp real world, despite many and varied claims to the contrary. Dyno tuned ones may render a bit more... or less. There just aint no magic wand to make horsepower mysteriously appear.

I especially like the fairy-tale dyno curves

Not sure how fourbangers do with hp increases. I've had V6s and V8s. This would be my first 4banger. But in th world of chipping, it is possible to get up to 40hp increases. With the SVT Lightning that I had, there were chips that added almost 40hp.
Now I wouldn't think or say that getting 27hp just from the ECU upgrade wouldn't be impossible, it'd be harder to achieve on a MINI. I think it's true. It doesn't sound that far fetched.
With most chip upgrades with 4bangers or 6's you're looking at around 5-10hp increase. But when you change out the whole ECU than you're looking at more hp.
Cheers,

I have 03 MCS with the following:

ALTA PULLEY, ALTA INTAKE, THROTTLE BODY, PLUGS, WIRES, COIL PACK, SSR COMP WHEELS, MILLTECK SPORT CATBACK, H-SPORT LOWERING SPRINGS, P/S FAN COVER, H-SPORT REAR SWAY BAR, H-SPORT CONTROL ARMS, UNICHIP ECU, WHALEN SHIFT ****, and RANDY WEBB’s STAGE ONE BRAKES.

Did two dyno runs 15 minutes apart (hot motor and hot day) on a Dynojet and the difference between setting A and B was 13.4 more HP and 10.4 more Torque and my MPG went back up. I think on setting A it was getting way too much fuel as on B the air fuel ratio is a lot better.

I doubt that we will see over 20 HP improvement from that ECU upgrade.

We see all sorts of results with various ECU upgrades including UniChip, One Click and Shark injector, etc. Something comes to mind when you do testing on a dyno and get differences between setting A and setting B.

If "setting A" gives too much fuel then would it be worse performance than the stock ECU settings? Therefore to get a good measure of what UniChip is doing is to measure stock vs the "best" UniChip setting. You actual results may vary because your combination of mods may be different. A 19% pulley would have different gains than a 15% pulley MCS with UniChip. Also your dyno numbers may change from shop to shop or with the technician and the conditions that day.

I had an '02 Lightning, chipped, pulleyed, and intaked to make 377hp/505ft-lbs at the wheels (Mustang dyno, reads low on HP), running 12.9 at 106mph. The big performance boost came from the pulley, not the chip. A chip alone on the Lightning will not make 40hp, even running it to the bleeding edge of lean a/f and timing. The chip was a tuning aid for the increased boost of the intake/pulley.

So no, you cannot make anywhere near the claimed gains on the MCS with a chip alone. Some cars yes, such as the VWs and Audis... but that is because the ECU also controls the boost, so we are back to the more boost = horsepower thing.
